Why was Zhang Dun included in "The Story of the Traitor"?
In 1035 AD, Zhang Dun was born in Pucheng, Jianzhou. When he was young, Zhang Dun was well-read, good at using words, and his calligraphy was vigorous and powerful. Although he is not as skillful as the people in Tang Dynasty wrote, the momentum that the world judged him to be has long gone. Zhang Dun was a famous politician and military strategist in the Northern Song Dynasty. He was forthright, honest and forthright, with eyes full of sand. But why is such a famous and personable person called a traitor?
Zhang Dun in the TV series
Zhang Dun's merits and demerits are closely related to his unruly character, his political reforms, his opposition to Song Huizong's succession and his criticism of Ren Xu'an Related. The New Deal that Zhang Dun insisted on inherited Wang Anshi's reform, but also absorbed the policies of the Yuan Dynasty, so it achieved great results. But the new law still hurts the vested interests of conservatives, that is, those high-ranking officials, and even the imperial family headed by the emperor. These interest groups eventually united to deal with Zhang Dun and continued to suppress him.
In the third year of the Yuan Dynasty, Song Zhezong passed away. Because he had no heirs, he decided to make Duan Wang Zhao Ji the emperor and dedicated it to the Queen Mother. However, he was strongly opposed by Zhang Dun. He believed that Duan was frivolous and immoral and could not become emperor. According to the patriarchal system, King Jian should succeed to the throne. Zhang Dun still faced the Queen Mother's severe rebuke, but did not give the Queen Mother any face in his words.
Zhang Dun failed in the end, and the throne of the Northern Song Dynasty was eventually succeeded by King Duan, who was later succeeded. The superior Song Huizong believed that Zhang Dun had always been so opposed to him, how could he let Zhang Dun become emperor. This just gave an opportunity to those treacherous ministers who didn't like Zhang Dun, so they wrote a letter to impeach Zhang Dun. Finally, Zhang Dun was demoted to Beijing and moved frequently. Finally, he died of illness and was buried in Xingxing, Huzhou.
Song Huizong and others were able to remove Zhang Dun from his position as prime minister, so they naturally beautified him, and finally turned him into a traitor who had wronged him for hundreds of years. However, the eyes of future generations are sharp, and it is obvious to see how bad Song Huizong was after he came to the throne. He and his ministers brought the Northern Song Dynasty to the point of destroying the country, and it was useless for them to slander Zhang Dun.
The traitor Zhang Dun
Zhang Dun was born in the Song Dynasty, the weakest period in Chinese history. Zhang Dun is straightforward and candid by nature, and speaks sharply and directly. Zhang Dun is efficient and sharp-tongued. He is often regarded as acrimonious and ostracized in North Korea. He was originally a famous general in the Song Dynasty, but was later classified as a traitor. The stench of the Song Dynasty is evident.

If you only look at the records of Song Dynasty history, you will see that Zhang Dun was a traitor who was eager for quick success, regardless of the safety of the people, and made the people of the Song Dynasty miserable. But if you look closely, you will find that it involves far-reaching political reforms in the history of the Song Dynasty, so this is the opinion of political factions.
The reason why Zhang Dun is not liked by most people, especially those related to the emperor and noble ministers, is because Zhang Dun supported Wang Anshi's reform, and later he became the host of the reform. These people hate him because the political reforms he advocates bring their "benefits" to the poor. This is intolerable to selfish vested interests, so it tries its best to belittle Wang Anshi and Zhang Dun.
More importantly, Zhang Dun has a very strong temperament. As long as someone makes a mistake, even Wang Anshi once promoted his younger brother. So Wang Anshi also fell out with him, which also made those who hated him label him as ungrateful. Later, when Zhezong died and a new monarch was registered, Zhang Dun opposed the frivolous Song Huizong. Therefore, after the new monarch came to power, he and the ministers excluded and belittled Zhang Dun. Even Zhang Dun's selfless act of not giving his son a chance to secretly join the army became one of his sins. Therefore, the official slander of Zhang Dun is inevitable
Zhang Dun is straightforward and straightforward, getting to the point and leaving no room for the other party. When Zhang Dun was an official, he restored the new law to benefit the general public; he deplored the old party and purified the dirty atmosphere of the court; he expanded the territory of the Song Dynasty, expedition to Xixia, surrendered to Tibet, and opened up the southwest. Zhang Dun's contribution to the Northern Song Dynasty is undoubted, but due to his straightforward character, he was ostracized and slandered in the court.
Nanmu coffin boards scattered aside
After Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty ascended the throne, Zhang Dun was demoted to various places, often being dragged from one place to another. In the fourth year of Chongning, he died of illness in Hangzhou and was later buried in Changxing County, Huzhou.
Zhang Dun’s tomb is on a hill at the foot of Jiulong Mountain in Changxing County, Huzhou. It is located in a flat area with dense bamboo forests and is quiet and quiet. Now, however, I cannot see the entire tomb because it has been destroyed. According to local memories, Zhang Dun's original tomb was a large mound about three meters high. Because it is backed by Jiulong Mountain and faces Taihu Lake in the east, it is a geomantic treasure, so it is coveted by rampant tomb robbers. The grave was washed away twenty years ago.
In 2011, some people who were said to be Zhang Dun's descendants made a special trip to Jiulong Mountain in Changxing County to worship their ancestors. When they saw Zhang Dun's tomb, it was already in ruins. Zhang Dun's tombstone has long disappeared. It is said that when the reservoir was built in the last century, many large stones were moved here, and the tombstone is probably one of them. Not far from the tomb site, there are three nanmu blocks beside it. That was the coffin Zhang Dun had dragged out of the tomb by tomb robbers. It has been thousands of years and has experienced many years of wind and rain, but the texture of these pieces of nanmu is clearly discernible and exudes a delicate fragrance.
There are still damaged stone statues, human statues, horse statues, sheep statues, etc. around Zhang Dun's tomb. Although most of their heads are gone, the once solemn demeanor still permeates from their bodies, which not only makes people daydream about the weather back then.
Zhang Dun’s calligraphy
Zhang Dun was a famous politician, reformer and military strategist in the Northern Song Dynasty. His life is full of frustrations and misunderstandings. Zhang Dun once supported Wang Anshi's reform. Although he was suppressed, Zhezong served as prime minister after succeeding to the throne, learning from the old while restoring the new law. In addition, Zhang Dun relied on his shrewd ability and courage to make bold decisions, successfully surrendered to Tibet and expedition to Western Liao. However, Zhang Dun's talent does not stop there. In addition to his political achievements, his achievements in the art of calligraphy are also beyond the reach of ordinary people. It is not nonsense to say that Zhang Dun and Su Shi are equally famous in calligraphy.

Zhang Dun is a straightforward person, so he is quite conceited and outspoken about his calligraphy attainments. Zhang Dun once said that he is a "Mo Zen", which means that he has realized the mysterious meaning of calligraphy. Although there is some suspicion of boasting, there is no doubt about his achievements. Calligraphy that Huang Zeng enthusiastically praised. Although it is slightly inferior to the prosperous Tang Dynasty, it has surpassed Zhu Suiliang and Xue Ji in terms of momentum. In his later years, Zhang Dun's calligraphy became a sage.
However, due to political reasons, not many of Zhang Dun's calligraphy works have been handed down. Only two works, "Tie of Kuaiji Zunhou" and "Inscription of Caotang Temple", have more than 50 words. However, only these works can show the depth of Zhang Dun's calligraphy attainments. In particular, "Tie of the Marquis of Kuaiji", in addition to its research value on historical events, its greatest value lies in its calligraphy art, which can clearly show Zhang Dun's vigorous calligraphy pen, sophistication and momentum of writing in his later years. After the Tang Dynasty, when the law was upheld, Shi was a pioneer and opened the window for giving away calligraphy.
Zhang Dun Cliff
During the Northern Song Dynasty, Zhang Dun was a bold and honest man. To say he was bohemian would be an understatement. Zhang Dun, who had a changeable temperament, had a good relationship with the great talent Su Shi, and the two often traveled together. Su Shi was appointed as the governor of Fengxiang Prefecture, Zhang Dun was appointed as the magistrate of Shangzhou, and both of them were examiners. Liu Yuan, the father who presided over the examination, lived with them day and night. From their words and deeds, we can see that Zhang Dun and Su Shi were unparalleled talents in the Song Dynasty, so we admire them very much.
Wanren Cliff
It should be that the invigilator’s official duties are over. When they are free, brothers Zhang Dun and Su Shi will start to play in Nanshan. It is said that there are terrible monsters in the temples in Nanshan, and people dare not go in or out. Neither Zhang Dun nor Zhang Dun believed in evil spirits, and they lived happily inside them, which meant that their hearts were high and their courage was great.
Soon, the two of them came to Xianyou Lake, where there was a cliff as deep as ten thousand feet. The people standing around seemed to have lost their souls. The beachfront road by the pool is very narrow. There is a long wooden bridge in the middle. Pedestrians dare not walk on it. As long as their glasses glance down, their legs will become weak and they will be unable to move. Su Shi, who wrote bold lyrics, was pushed across the pond by Zhang Dun, but Su Shi refused.
So Zhang Dun wrapped the rope around the tree and walked across the river bank. Wan Ren stood calmly on the cliff, smearing a large amount of paint and ink on the cliff with his hands. Zhang Dun waved his right hand up and down from time to time, and his lower body and feet also moved slowly. In an instant, six typewriters "Zhang Dun and Su Shi came to visit" appeared on the cliff. Viewed from a distance, there is a heroic momentum between the lines, and the heroic spirit between the strokes.
Su Shi patted Zhang Dun on the back with emotion and said that he was so tough that he had no problem killing people. So the two brothers laughed on the cliff.
