The Past Life of Du Fu's Jiangge

Du Fu Jiangge, built in memory of Du Fu, is located at the junction of Xihu Bridge, Xiangjiang Road and Xihu Road in Hedong District, Changsha City. Linxiang River is a part of the Xiangjiang River scenic belt, facing Orange Island and Yuelu Mountain across the river, less than one kilometer away from Tianxin Pavilion.

The stars have changed and the people of Sri Lanka have disappeared. The remains of Jiangge have long since disappeared. In order to commemorate a generation of poets who spent their later years in Huxiang, during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, some scholars and celebrities in Changsha proposed to build pavilions, carve poetry monuments and erect statues for Du Fu. Since then, the sound has never stopped. In 2002, the Changsha Municipal People's Government rebuilt Du Fu's Jiangge in the original site and then opened it to the public.

Du Fu Jiangge Building Complex faces Xiangjiang Avenue in the east and Xiangjiang River in the west. The main building is 5 meters away from the Xiangjiang levee, and there are 5 meters of terraces floating on the Xiangjiang River. The hexagonal stele pavilion, double-eaved roof and central column in the pavilion are arranged in the north. It was originally planned to describe the origin and process of the construction of Du Fu Jiangge by Changsha Municipal Government, but there is no word on the stone tablet at present. There is a single-roof square pavilion on the side of the pedestrian passage near Xiangjiang Avenue in the south, which is the secondary entrance of Du Fu Jiangge. The main attic is a north-south corridor, a fan corridor and an arc corridor. There is a calligraphy tablet gallery outside the corridor, and 59 of Du Fu's nearly 100 poems in Central Hunan are selected, which coincides with the 59-year life of poets and saints, and are written by famous calligraphers such as Shen Peng, Li Duo, Yan Jialong, Li Li and He Manzong. Jiangge's main attic is a four-story building with a height of 33 meters. It's huge and spectacular. The designer is ingenious, so that the east and the west face each other head-on, that is, whether viewed from the foot of the mountain or from the south to the west, Jiangge welcomes guests with a positive smile.

The first floor of the main attic is planned as a souvenir shop for poetry, painting and calligraphy. The facade of the building is a traditional Tang-style ancient building in China, with vermilion columns, antique lattice windows and white walls. The railings of colonnade steps are moire stone pillars and slate railings. The roof rests on the top of the mountain, overlooking the cornices, and the arc-shaped roof with blue and black tiles stretches, which embodies the basic characteristics of ancient, majestic and heavy buildings in the Tang Dynasty. The east-west facade facing Xiangjiang Avenue and Xiangjiang River is the main facade, which stands horizontally and vertically under the eaves of the roof, with the words "Du Fu Jiangge" written by Shen Peng in calligraphy.

On the second floor is the Du Fu Memorial Hall, which is neutral to the statue of Du Fu. On the front is the large wooden bas-relief "Du Gongbu Xiaoxiang's whereabouts map", which shows the whereabouts of Du Fu when he lived in Hunan, and complements the statue of Du Fu in the center of the hall. On both sides of the hall are the poems of Du Fu and the poems and paintings of famous painters such as Zhang Daqian and Lin Sanzhi. In addition, couplets, large vases of poems and paintings, large antique mahogany screens, flower stands, several cases, rare potted flowers and bonsai make the whole hall full of rich cultural atmosphere.

The third floor was originally planned as a special exhibition of Du Fu's life, but now it is displayed by celebrities related to Changsha, such as Qu Yuan and Jia Yi, Mao Zedong and Liu Shaoqi, to reflect the profound historical and cultural heritage of Changsha. The Tibetan Pavilion on the fourth floor is one of the top 100 teahouses in China.

In Jiangge, there are 38 Du Fu couplets dedicated to Jiangge and Du Fu's life exhibition. The exhibition is divided into six parts: family background, travel, expressing ambition, poetry history, Xiang soul and glory. Among them, in the form of poems and paintings, Du Fu's poems in Hunan for three years are emphatically displayed, which shows his life predicament of being sick and lonely and his great feelings of worrying about the country and the people.

Climbing the Jiangge, you can watch the scenery of Orange Island at close range, overlook the clouds of Lushan Mountain, and appreciate the beautiful face of Changsha Shanshuizhou City. Sitting in Jiangge, you can taste famous Hunan teas such as Hunan Black Tea, Xiangxi Golden Tea, Junshan Silver Needle and Guzhang Maojian Tea. Strolling through Jiangge, in the lush greenery, you can read excellent poems and watch famous calligraphy. In 2006, Du Fu Jiangge and its Xiangjiang River scenic belt were rated as one of the ten new Xiaoxiang scenic spots by Hunan Tourism Association, and became a star city scenic spot for tourists from all over the world. In recent years, Du Fu Jiangge, as a landmark building in Changsha, has become the external display window of Changsha and even Hunan, and is known as the business card of Changsha and the living room of Hunan.
