During the Qianlong period, the imperial court established the erudite poetry department. Fu Shanshi is 72 years old, and local officials forced him to take an exam in Beijing. He refused to go because he was ill, but officials ordered people to go to his bed, the capital three miles away. Fu Shan refused to enter the city, and the Qing court was exempted from examination.
