Since 1949, the national sorghum production has been restored and developed. 1952, the national sorghum planting area is 9.4 million hm2, accounting for 7.5% of the national crop planting area. The total output reached 1 165438+ ten thousand tons, with an average of 1 185kg/hm2. With the gradual improvement of agricultural production conditions and the continuous improvement of people's living standards, the planting area of rice, wheat and corn has expanded rapidly, while the planting area of sorghum has gradually decreased. By 1960, the national sorghum planting area will reach 4 million hm2. In 1960s and 1970s, due to the popularization and application of sorghum hybrids, the yield per unit area of sorghum was greatly increased, and the planting area of sorghum increased to about 6 million hm2. The national average sorghum yield increased from 1725kg/hm2 in 1970 to 23 10kg/hm2 in 1975.
1980, the sown area of sorghum in China was 2.69 million hm2, the average yield was 2,520 kg/hm2, and the total output was 6.75 million t ... After that, great changes have taken place in China's sorghum production: firstly, sorghum planting areas have developed from flat and fertile fields with good production conditions to arid, semi-arid, saline-alkali and barren areas with poor production conditions; Secondly, sorghum products are mainly used in brewing, feed, food processing, paper making, board making, broom making and pigment extraction. Third, the purpose of sorghum production is to develop from simply increasing grain output to high-quality special products. Although the planting area of sorghum continued to decline, the total output decreased slightly due to the increase in unit yield. Compared with 1980 in 1999, the planting area of sorghum decreased by1230,000 hm2 by 45.7%, but the average yield reached 4,005 kg/hm2, which was 59% higher than that in 1980. Sorghum, as a dry grain crop in northern China, still occupies an important position in production.
