Wei Yuan is well-read and prolific in writing, mainly including Gu, Shi Gu Wei, Mo Ai, Lao Zi's Original Meaning, Wu Sheng Ji, A New History of Yuan Dynasty, and The Management of National Charts. [7] Other works include: Poems of Gu Weitang, Ram Guwei, Zeng Ziwei, Zi Siwei, Gao Pu, Biography of Filial Piety, Chronology of Confucius, Chronology of Mencius, Classics of Ancient Chinese in Primary Schools, Micro-reading of Ancient Chinese Books in Universities and Classics of Ancient Chinese in Han Dynasty. In 2005, his works were included in the Complete Works of Wei Yuan in 20 volumes.
Entrusted by Lin Zexu, Wei Yuan wrote a comprehensive work on world geography and history. Based on the Annals of Sizhou compiled by Lin Zexu with less than 90,000 words, it expanded other documents, books and periodicals collected at that time and many papers written by Wei Ziyuan. It was first carved in the 22nd year of Daoguang, with a total of 50 volumes. In the twenty-seventh year of Daoguang, the supplementary publication was engraved as sixty volumes. Subsequently, Xu Jishe compiled the Biography of Ying Huan in the 28th year of Daoguang, compiled 100 volumes and published them in the world in the 2nd year of Xianfeng.
