Calligraphy Tang characters

Speaking of calligraphy in the Yuan Dynasty, I think everyone's first reaction must be Zhao Mengfu. He is the number one figure in the history of calligraphy in the Yuan Dynasty, but there is another person whose level may far exceed that of Zhao Mengfu. Who doesn't pay attention to Lao Zhao? Let's guess first.

Let's take a look at his masterpiece first.

Seeing this, I believe many people are at a loss! Look at the signature. Li Ya, Li Shihong, who is it? I haven't heard of it, and I don't think it's a good word. Here is a detailed analysis of how he surpassed Zhao Mengfu and rivaled Wang Xizhi.

Comparison of Tang characters

Let's look at three characters from the Tang Dynasty. The first is from the preface of Wang Xizhi's holy teachings, the second is from Li Ya, and the third is from Zhao Mengfu.

1: Let's look at the treatment of the midpoint of the circle first. Both Wang He and Li are a little tall, and they look very straight and neat. They are even steeper if they are far to the right. Zhao's point falls in the middle, which is not so interesting.

2. Looking at the handling of the green arrow, Wang and Li left a lot of blanks in these two places, which can be said to be imitations of gods, while Zhao basically didn't have it on the left, and the right side became a parallelogram.

3. Looking at the treatment of the center of gravity of the red arrow, Wang He and Li are very stable against the bottom, and the lower mouth moves to the right, resulting in the dislocation of the upper and lower structures. Zhao is not firmly on Wang Xizhi's side, but this is exactly what he didn't learn from Wang Xizhi.

Finally, let's take a look at it as a whole. Wang He and Li are longer, and the whole word looks lively and dynamic, while Zhao is more upright and less interesting.

Although word contrast

I won't analyze this in detail. Mainly in the treatment of left and right structures. The gap between Li and Wang is big, while that between Zhao is small. This is the difference between ancient Jin and Tang laws and modern Song, Yuan and Jin laws.
