Liwubi Temple on Liwubi Island

The temple on Liwubi Island belongs to the Yellow Sect Lamasery and was built in 1634 AD. In the early 1960s, it was destroyed for well-known reasons as a product of feudal superstition. In 1989, under the initiative of Luosang Yishi Living Buddha, the government funded the project and the masses contributed labor. The county tourism bureau was responsible for the implementation of the reconstruction, which was completed in December 1999. The Buddha statues and ritual implements enshrined in the temple were all donated by local religious people who voluntarily raised funds. In the temple, there are statues of Buddha Sakyamuni, Avalokitesvara, the Thousand-Armed and Thousand-Eyed Buddha, Tsongkhapa, the master of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism and his two disciples, and Dharma protectors. Not only is Tibetan Buddhism in Luoshui Village The statue of Luosang Yishi Living Buddha was erected on the initiative of the Gelug sect monk Akgeshe. Above the main entrance, there is a plaque inscribed "Yuchi Qionglou" written in Tibetan by the living Buddha Luosang and translated into Chinese by the famous calligrapher Mr. Shang Wen. During every Tibetan festival or Buddhist festival, the management committee of Liwubi Temple takes the lead in holding large-scale Buddhist activities here. In particular, the fasting and abstention ceremony that begins on the second day of the sixth lunar month is the most grand, during which there are religious people along the lake. And religious believers from Yongning, Labo, Sichuan Qiansuo, Zuosuo and other places voluntarily participate, and sometimes there are more than a hundred people. During the Dharma Assembly, in addition to performing tens of thousands or even hundreds of millions of kowtows, there are also activities such as abstaining from food and drink, abstaining from speaking, etc. to cultivate public virtue. Many elderly people participate year after year and only stop when their bodies can no longer support it. By participating in this ascetic practice, we pray to avoid the process of being reborn as a mute and foodless species in the cycle of life and death, and to replace this process through ascetic practice in this life. According to people, although Liwubi Temple was small in the past, it was very famous. Whenever there is a disaster in the villages around the lake or a bad thing happens in the world, spirits will appear to foretell people. Strange things such as the Buddha taking off his hat, the Buddha stepping off the altar, etc. all happened here. Therefore, the reconstruction of later dynasties continues and the incense is even more prosperous. In addition, there are eminent monks in the temple who often practice and serve the Buddha here, and from time to time they predict good and bad luck for the local people and read astrological books. Many hurt souls are soothed here. It can be said that the temple is not big, but there are immortals who are spiritual!
