In the Ming Dynasty, there was a man named Wang Shuyuan who had wonderful and exquisite craftsmanship. He could carve palaces, utensils, figures, and even birds, animals, trees, and stones on a piece of wood one inch in diameter. One piece is not just the original shape of wood to simulate the shape of something, each has its own expression and posture. (He) once gave me a small boat carved from a peach stone. (The carving) should be of Su Shi's tour of Red Cliff.
The boat is about eight minutes long from beginning to end, and about as high as two yellow rice grains. The raised and open part in the middle is the cabin, which is covered with a canopy made of Ruo bamboo leaves. There are small windows next to (cabin), four on each side and eight on each side. When you open the window, you can see the carved railings facing each other. When you close it, you will see the sentence "The mountain is high and the moon is small, the water will come out" engraved on the right side, and the sentence "The breeze comes slowly, the water wave is sluggish" is engraved on the left side, and the recesses of the engraved words are painted with azurite.
The one in the middle, wearing a tall hat and having a thick beard, is Su Dongpo, Foyin sits on the right, and Lu Zhi sits on the left. Su Dongpo and Huang Luzhi looked at a calligraphy and painting scroll together. Dongpo's right hand held the right end of the scroll, and his left hand was stroking Huang's straight back. Lu Zhi was holding the left end of the scroll with his left hand and pointing at the scroll with his right hand, as if he was saying something. Dongpo is showing his right foot, Huang is showing his left foot. They are each slightly sideways, with their knees touching each other hidden in the folds of their clothes under the scroll. The Buddha's seal is very much like the Maitreya Bodhisattva, with his chest open and his head raised, his expression is not similar to that of Su and Huang. (He) placed his right knee flat, bent his right arm to support it on the boat, raised his left knee, and hung (a string of) rosary beads on his left arm next to his left knee - the rosary beads could be counted clearly. There is an oar swinging across the stern of the boat. There is a boatman on each side of the oar. The boatman on the right has a vertebral bun, his face is raised, his left hand is leaning on a crossbar, and his right hand is holding his right toes, as if shouting loudly. The boatman on the left is holding the palm fan in his right hand and stroking the stove with his left hand. There is a pot on the stove. The man's eyes are looking directly at the tea stove with a calm expression, as if he is listening to the sound of tea making.
The top of the boat is slightly flat, and the author's inscription is engraved on it. The text is "On the autumn day of Renxu, Wang Yishu of Yushan was just engraved when he was far away." (The handwriting) looks like a mosquito. The feet are equally small, the strokes are clear, and its color is black. There is also a stamp in seal script engraved with the text "Chu Pingshan People", and its color is red.
There is a total of one boat (on it), with five people and eight windows carved on it; a bamboo awning, a boat oar, a stove, a teapot, a hand scroll and a rosary are carved on it; couplets, titles and seal characters are carved on it. , with thirty-four engraved characters. However, its length is less than an inch. It is carved from long and narrow peach stones. The skills are truly amazing!
