Qiantang (now Hangzhou, Zhejiang) was born in Cixi, Zhejiang. ? Poet, essayist, literary critic and gourmet in Qing Dynasty. Yuan Mei is not talented and good at writing poems. After four years of Qianlong (1739), he was born as a scholar and was awarded Jishi Shu by the Academy of Academician.
In the seventh year of Qianlong (1742), he was transferred to Jiangsu and served as county magistrate in Lishui, Jiangning, Jiangpu and Shuyang for seven years. He is well-known and diligent as an official, but his official career is not smooth and he has no intention of collecting money. In the 14th year of Qianlong (1749), he resigned and lived in Suiyuan, a small warehouse in Nanjing, where he recited poems and collected many disciples, especially female disciples. In the second year of Jiaqing (1798), Yuan Mei died at the age of 82. After his death, he was buried in Baibupo, Nanjing, and was called "Mr. Suiyuan".
