Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty liked calligraphy and painting seals, and repeatedly carved the contents of the "Eight Diagrams Palm Thought Collection" to 37 squares. Compared with the seal of calligraphy and painting, the auction seal can be enlarged and compared accurately, and more than ten differences can be found. The norms of seal script writing have been well documented since ancient times. The shape, structure and strokes of seal script are marked on the printing surface with a knife and pencil to show the charm of iron pen. Professor Li believes that the "eight treasures" printed in this auction are relatively rigid because of inaccurate line radian. For example, the heart of the word "nian" in the original print is vertical, while the imitation print is inclined. The stroke of the word "ba" is slightly round rather than square, and the imitator does not know the seal cutting method and cannot express the writing lines of calligraphy.
At the same time, the "Bagua Palm Treasure" of this auction has a heavy impression of inkpad, which seems to have been left by countless bell lids 200 years later, and it is precisely because of this that the clues of imitation are revealed. According to a large number of existing jade seals, the inkpad used for Qianlong is the "eight treasures inkpad" in Feng Gong, Fuzhou. Every time it is printed, it should be cleaned, sealed for a few days every year, displayed on the incense table of Jiaotai Hall, dedicated to high-fragrant fruits, and ministers bowed down and burned incense. There seems to be no ink mark on the printed surface of the genuine imperial seal, which is clean and tidy. The color of the inkpad is not as dull and frivolous as the "Bagua Palm Treasure" in this auction, but the original ink mark is old and new.
Professor Li also pointed out that the "treasure of gossip palm" in this auction is that the carving workers of dragon claws and bibcock are weak, lacking discipline and swordsmanship. The dragon's hair lines can't get up, and the flame lines can't get up. The dragon's claws are rough and weak, unable to grasp strength and lack movement, just like animals lying on the ground. The shape of the dragon ridge along the bow, the knife is not clean, there is no arc potential, it looks bloated and lifeless. Because the modeling strength is not well grasped, the central axis of the nose is not in the middle of the mouth. After the computer picture is enlarged, the front teeth and side teeth are sawed up and down, which should be carved by machine. However, the auction jade seal is properly equipped with a base of "filling the old with the new" to show that this jade seal has a great history. The counterfeiters didn't know that there were many yellow ribbons in the Daqing Imperial Seal (ribbons represent longevity and convenience), so they gave them rosewood boxes. Most treasure boxes are carved or painted in gold to show the dignity and royal atmosphere of the jade seal.
