1 Confucius praised Dong Hu greatly and called Dong Hu a "good history of ancient times" whose "calligraphy is not hidden". Later generations accordingly called him "good fox" to express his praise. This is because during the Spring and Autumn Period when etiquette collapsed and music collapsed, the powerful ministers controlled the country and had the power of life and death. The calligraphy principle that violated etiquette and justice has long lost its majesty. Not everyone who adheres to this principle is praised. And it often leads to death. The Taishi of the State of Qi wrote about the crime of "regicide" against the powerful minister Cui Shu, and as a result, two brothers were killed one after another. Dong Hu's straight writing naturally took risks. Therefore, Confucius praised him and later generations praised him in recognition of his upright spirit of adhering to principles. This spirit has been unremittingly inherited by later generations of upright historians, and has become the most noble moral sentiment in our country's historical ethics tradition.
