Chicken allusions and legends

1. The origin of the zodiac sign Rooster

The King of Rooster is a competitive guy who makes trouble and gets into fights all day long (this virtue still remains today). When the Jade Emperor named the zodiac animals, he considered whether animals had contributed to human beings, and the Chicken King was certainly not on the list.

One day, the Chicken King saw that the horse whose zodiac sign had been sealed was favored by others and had a golden saddle and silver silver. He was very envious, so he stepped forward and asked: "Brother Ma, you have the honor you have today. How can you do it?" What is it?"

The horse replied: "I usually plow the fields and transport goods, and charge into battle during the war, and I have made great contributions to mankind. Of course I should be loved." The Chicken King said: "If I can also seal it. If you are a zodiac sign, it will be good if you are respected by others."

Horse enlightened Chicken King: "It is not difficult to get people's love, as long as you can use your strengths and do something real for people. Take animals with sealed zodiac signs as an example. Oxen can plow fields, dogs can guard gates, pigs can provide human meat, and dragons can provide rain.

You are born with a golden voice, which may be helpful to humans. "Rooster." Wang returned home, thought about it, and finally thought of using his golden voice to wake up the sleeping people.

So every day at dawn, the Chicken Prince got up early and sang at the top of his voice, waking people up from their sleep. People were very grateful for the Chicken King's contribution and decided to ask the Jade Emperor to make the Chicken a god as a gift of life.

However, at that time, the Jade Emperor’s standard for the zodiac was only animals, not birds. Among the six animals, horses, cows, sheep, and dogs were all included, but there was no chicken. The Chicken King was so anxious now that he complained, his face turned red with anger, and his neck became thick with shouts, but to no avail.

One night, the Chicken King couldn't understand the affair and couldn't sleep. A ray of ghost went straight up to the Heavenly Palace and came to the Jade Emperor's Hall. He cried to the Jade Emperor that he had done a lot of good work in waking up all living beings every morning. Da, I sent a letter to ask for the zodiac sign, I really can’t figure it out.

After I finished speaking, I couldn’t stop crying. The Jade Emperor thought that the Chicken King's contribution was really great and that the criteria for selecting the zodiac sign he set were indeed wrong, so he picked a flower in front of the palace and put it on the Chicken King's head as a reward.

When the Chicken King woke up, he found that there was a red flower on his head. So it wore the red flower and went to see the Four Heavenly Kings. The Four Heavenly Kings recognized it as the Jade Emperor's "Rooster Red Flower" and knew that the Jade Emperor valued the Chicken King, so they made an exception and allowed the Chicken King to participate in the zodiac competition.

On the day of competition for the zodiac sign, the rooster and the dog got up at the same time and walked side by side. When they were approaching the Heavenly Palace, the rooster was afraid that the dog would get ahead of him, so he ran away and jumped in front. The dog rushed to catch up, but never caught up, and ended up behind the chicken.

From then on, the dog no longer had a good impression of the chicken and chased the chicken whenever he saw it. To this day, the remnants of the situation are still lingering, and the phenomenon of "the dog chasing the rooster away" can still be seen. As for the chicken, he still wakes up every morning with a red face and a beautiful big red flower on his head.

2. Hearing the Rooster and Dancing

Zu Ti of the Jin Dynasty was a man with an open mind and lofty ambitions. But when he was a child, he was a naughty child who didn't like reading. When he entered his youth, he realized his lack of knowledge and felt that he could not serve the country without studying, so he started reading hard.

He read extensively and studied history carefully, from which he learned a wealth of knowledge and made great progress in his knowledge. He had been in and out of Luoyang, the capital, several times. People who had come into contact with him said that Zu Ti was a talented person who could assist the emperor in governing the country.

When Zu Ti was 24 years old, someone recommended him to be an official, but he refused and continued to study hard. Later, Zu Ti and his childhood friend Liu Kun Yizhi served as the chief registrar of Sizhou.

He and Liu Kun had a deep relationship. Not only did they often lie in the same bed and sleep under the same quilt, but they also had the same lofty ideals: to make contributions, revive the Jin Dynasty, and become the pillars of the country.

Once, Zu Ti heard the crow of a rooster in his sleep in the middle of the night. He kicked Liu Kun awake and said to him: "Other people think it is unlucky to hear a rooster crow in the middle of the night, but I don't." Thinking about it this way, how about we just get up and practice swordplay when the rooster crows?" Liu Kun readily agreed.

So they got up after the rooster crows every day to practice their swords, with sword lights flying and sword sounds clanging. Spring goes to winter, cold comes and heat comes, never stopping. Hard work pays off, and after a long period of hard study and training, they finally became all-rounders capable of both civil and military skills.

He can not only write good articles, but also lead troops to win battles. Zu Ti was named General Zhenxi, realizing his desire to serve the country; Liu Kun became Zhonglang General in the Northern Expedition, taking charge of the military affairs of the three states of Bing, Hebei and You, and gave full play to his literary and military talents.

3. The legend of Baijiling

Baijiling is a famous mountain in Xinyi City, with an altitude of 1548 meters. It is located at the junction of Baishi Town and Qianpai Town in Xinyi City , is the dividing mountain range between Baishi River and Qianpai River. At the foot of the mountain there are Baiji Village, Baiji Village, Baiji Street and other places named after Baiji.

One year, the Jade Emperor sent Taibai Jinxing to the human world to check the grain harvest. He found that there was no sun in the world, it was pitch black, grains were not growing, animals were killing the people, and the people of Li were really unable to live.

He was about to summon the ministers in the Heavenly Palace to discuss a solution when he suddenly saw Ao Guang, the Dragon King of the East China Sea, running into the Lingxiao Hall sweating profusely and panting, kneeling down and shouting: " Jade Emperor, help me, Jade Emperor, help me!"

The Jade Emperor asked for the reason. It turned out that the sun was hidden under the sea and could not come out. Not long after, it heated up the sea water, scalding the Dragon King of the West Sea and the Fish and Turtle Sea. They couldn't stand it anymore, so they were all jumping around wildly. The originally calm sea surface continued to stir up huge waves.

The Dragon King of the West Sea led the shrimp soldiers and crab generals to drive away the sun. The ones in front were unbearably roasted by the sun before they even got close. The Dragon King of the West Sea couldn't fight, so he had to ask his boss Ao Guang, the Dragon King of the East China Sea, to come to the Heavenly Palace to complain.

Seeing that the matter was urgent and unusual, the Jade Emperor immediately decided to send Taibai Jinxing to complete the matter. Then he gave a pair of divine chickens lying on the Yao Pond in the Tiangong Palace, and brought them to the top of the Yangtze Mountains by two gods. The cocks crow in the morning, urging the sun to rise to the sea.

The female cries when it gets dark to call the sun back to its nest. Taibai Jinxing and Emperor Yan paid their respects to the Jade Emperor, and when they arrived in the human world, they placed the pair of divine chickens on the top of the Yangtze Mountain. Then, he took the Liuchi hanging car and went to the East China Sea to urge the sun to go out to sea and get up to work.

This pair of divine chickens, with white feathers, bright red combs, golden beaks and paws, green wings and tails, are very beautiful. There are spiritual worms in the comb of the sacred chicken.

When the time comes, the chicken will dance and jump in the comb. The magic chicken will be petted until it can no longer sleep, and it will crow one after another. The sun heard that all the roosters in the world were crowing after the sacred rooster. It was so noisy that he could not sleep in, so he had to get up.

As soon as the sun rises, the darkness immediately recedes, and the world becomes bright again. Later, the pair of sacred chickens became the highest mountain in the Yangtze River Ridge, which was called Baiji Ridge.

4. Dumbfounded

It comes from "Zhuangzi Dasheng Chapter" written by Zhuangzi during the Warring States Period. Because King Xuan of Zhou loved cockfighting, a man named Ji Zhuzi trained cockfighting for King Xuan of Zhou. Ten days later, King Xuan of Zhou asked Ji Zhuzi if he had finished training. Ji Zhuzi replied that he had not yet.

This chicken looks aggressive on the surface, but in fact it has no confidence. Ten days later, King Xuan of Zhou asked again, and Ji Zhuzi said it was not okay because it immediately became nervous when it saw the shadow of other chickens, indicating that it was still aggressive.

After another 10 days, King Zhou Xuan couldn't bear it and asked again, but it still didn't work, because Ji Zhuzi thought that the chicken still had some bright eyes and its momentum was not gone. After another 10 days of this, Ji Zhuzi finally said it was almost done.

It is already a little dull and calm, looking like a wooden chicken, indicating that it has entered a perfect spiritual state. King Xuan put the chicken into the cockfighting ring. As soon as the other chickens saw this "dumbfounded" fighting cock, they turned around and ran away.

The "dumb cock" is not really dumb, it just looks dumb, but it actually has a strong fighting capacity. The wooden-looking fighting cock does not even need to attack, causing other fighting cocks to flee. It can be seen that the highest state of cockfighting is "stupid chicken".

5. Si Chen

The King of Shang Zhou attacked the State of Su and obtained the beautiful woman "Daji". Daji saw the ants climbing up the copper brazier and being scalded to death, so she told King Zhou of Shang, King Zhou ordered people to make two copper pillars, tie the prisoner to the copper pillars, and heat the copper pillars with fire, which is called "Paolao".

After King Wu of Zhou Dynasty Ji Fa destroyed the Shang Dynasty, he said with emotion that once the old hen crows, the family will decline. During the Yin and Shang Dynasties, the tyrant King Zhou only knew how to eat, drink and have fun every day, and lived a luxurious and shameless life. King Zhou ignored the words of his loyal ministers.

Only listen to the words of his beloved concubine Daji. Bigan, a loyal minister of the Shang Dynasty, was killed by King Zhou because he offered loyal advice to King Zhou. He also had his chest and heart ripped out to see what kind of evil intentions Bigan had. King Zhou's behavior aroused strong resistance from the officials and the people.

In 1046 BC, King Zhou Wu led troops to attack King Zhou. King Zhou Wu’s troops fought with King Zhou’s troops in Muye, seventy miles away from Chaoge. When King Zhou Wu took the oath in Muye, he said: In the past, it was said that hens had no way of crowing in the morning. If a hen crows instead of a rooster, the family will be destroyed.

If a woman seizes her husband's political power, the country will perish. King Zhou blindly listened to Daji's slander and governed indiscriminately, which was the root cause of King Zhou's country's ruin. King Zhou received news of King Wu's rebellion.

He organized 700,000 Dongyi captives to meet the enemy, but these captives had long hated him and turned their sides. King Zhou himself pushed himself to a dead end, and he had no choice but to flee back to Chaoge and burn himself on fire.
