Vietnam has used Chinese characters for thousands of years. Why did it use phonetic symbols later?

Vietnam is our neighbor now, and it has a deep historical origin with us all the time. Few people know that Chinese characters were used in Vietnam for thousands of years, and it was not until modern times that Chinese characters were abolished. Although Chinese characters were abolished in Vietnam, they had a profound influence in the history of Vietnam. Until now, the consequences of abolishing Chinese characters have continued and become more and more serious.

Vietnam abolished the use of Chinese characters in 18 and changed them to Latin characters. Now the consequences are getting more and more serious.

The north-central part of Vietnam has long been the territory of China and a part of China. It was not until 968 AD that Viet Nam officially broke away from China and became independent.

However, despite this, after that, no matter how Viet Nam changed dynasties and how China changed dynasties, it has always been a subordinate country of China. Therefore, it is not a big deal that they have been using Chinese characters. Vietnam not only uses Chinese characters, but also records all their history, culture, books and literature with Chinese characters as the carrier.

However, after the 19th century, China gradually withdrew from the list of world powers, and at this time, the history of Vietnamese Chinese characters also changed.

First of all, a large number of missionaries came to Vietnam and wanted to spread their religion and culture to Vietnam. In 1651, the French missionary Alexander? De? Rhodes compiled a Vietnamese-Portuguese-Latin Dictionary, which was regarded by Vietnam as an important symbol of the emergence of "Mandarin characters" in the future.

In 1858, the French invasion completely changed the status of Chinese characters in Vietnam. That year, the French army shelled Da Nang and opened the door to Vietnam, and then it took nearly 3 years to turn Vietnam into its colony.

French people think that Chinese characters are the core reason why the relationship between China and Vietnam's suzerain and vassal countries has been maintained for thousands of years, so they want to completely abolish Chinese characters in Vietnam.

In addition to blindly promoting how China is bad for Vietnam, it is also said that Chinese characters are the reason why Vietnam is backward, and they are the backward writing and culture. It is even more direct to say that "when this kind of Chinese characters incompatible with progress is still the only tool for exchanging ideas, only the development of French-Annan schools and the replacement of Chinese characters with Latin letters are the most effective ways to promote transformation".

Then, in 1917, France ordered the complete abolition of Chinese character education in schools. In July 1919, Hue's puppet court even issued the Royal Imperial Imperial Imperial edict to abolish the imperial examination, and Chinese characters were forced to withdraw from the historical stage of Vietnam.

In this way, Chinese characters were abolished in Vietnam, and Chinese characters withdrew from the historical stage of Vietnam.

First of all, the most direct thing is that as Vietnamese young people are unfamiliar with Chinese characters, they don't know anything about their history and culture before the 19th century, let alone those literary works. This is horrible, this is a cultural fault, and it is irresponsible to a country and a nation. However, if this country's culture and history are not inherited and carried forward for a long time, their country and nation will slowly decline, just like the three ancient civilizations except China, which were very powerful at the beginning.

The culture and art related to Chinese characters, such as calligraphy, will gradually decline in Vietnam, and the ancient, thousand-year-old culture will soon be lost because of the abolition of Chinese characters.

I wonder if they regret it now?
