Original text of "Suiyuan Poetry Talk":

? There is a couplet by Zhao Renshu in Changzhou that says: "Butterflies come and the wind makes a difference, but people go by and the moon is boring." My uncle only preached these two sentences in his life. A certain "Naked Ancient" says: "Don't make a boat on the river, don't make a moon on the river. The boat carries people to say goodbye, and the moon shines to say goodbye to people." During his life, he only passed down these four sentences. Jin Shengtan is good at criticizing novels, but the number of people is limited. However, his "Suye Temple" has a unique saying: "The noise has gradually become silent, and insects are flying in the face of the Buddha. The windows are half closed and it rains at night, and monks' robes are hung on the walls." It is extremely clear. Kong Dongtang performed the music version of "The Peach Blossom Fan", and there are several poetry collections. One of the best lines is: "The boat rushes into the row of egrets and rises, and the lamp attracts the autumn mosquitoes to fly into the tent." The other poems cannot be said to be true.

Uncle Zhao Renshu, (no information available), was from the Qing Dynasty. This couplet is also recorded in the poetry section of Volume 8 of Luyuan Conghua written by Qian Yong, a poet and calligrapher of the Qing Dynasty.

My translation:

? Changzhou Zhao Renshu wrote a couplet in his poems: "When butterflies come, the wind makes a difference, but when people go away, the moon is boring." Zhao Renshu wrote poems all his life, and only this was passed down. Two sentences. A certain "Ancient" poem wrote: "Don't go on a boat on the river, don't go on the moon on the river. The boat carries people to say goodbye, and the moon shines on people to say goodbye." This person wrote all his life, and only these four lines of poetry have been handed down. Jin Shengtan liked to criticize novels, and most literati looked down upon him; however, his five unique poems "Suye Temple": "The sound has gradually become silent, insects are flying in front of the Buddha. The windows are half closed and it rains at night, and monks' robes are hung on the walls." is particularly special. Pure. Kong Shangren wrote and performed the music version of "The Peach Blossom Fan" and also authored several collections of poems. There is a good line: "The boat rushes up to the rafts of the herons, and the lamp attracts the autumn mosquitoes to fly into the tent." Other poems are not praised enough.
