The calligraphy I'm learning now requires me to practice both pen and pencil gel pens. According to my experience of practicing calligraphy for so long, it is easier for pens to write fonts than ballpoint pens.
When writing with a pen, it is required that every stroke should be in place, forceful and beautiful, because the pen tip has a radian, and unlike a ballpoint pen, writing with a pen requires more care.
Therefore, when we were young, we needed to use pens for copywriting, and we couldn't use them as art pens with curved tips. Art pens themselves have long tips, so some strokes can be brought out by ourselves without deliberately writing, which won't be effective.
When writing with a ballpoint pen or gel pen, it will look better than writing with a pen. It may be because they are easier to master than pens, so it is not recommended to practice writing with a ballpoint pen, which is inherently beautiful, so that you will not find the shortcomings of your own writing.
Therefore, writing with a pen is really good-looking. If the pen is not used well, the thickness of the words will be different, and the whole word will not look so good.
