Xiao Zhuan came into being in the Qin Dynasty, and it was the product of the policy of "writing with the same language, cars with the same track, unified measurement" after Qin Shihuang unified China. On the basis of the original seal script used by Qin State, it was continuously simplified and standardized, and at the same time, the unified Chinese writing form created by other six countries was cancelled.
Xiao Zhuan was circulated until the last years of China, and it was not until around 8 AD that Xiao Zhuan was gradually replaced by official script. However, Xiao Zhuan has always been favored by many calligraphers because of its beautiful font. Because of its complicated stroke structure and peculiar form, it was often used as an anti-counterfeiting mark on the official anti-counterfeiting seal in ancient times.
Before Xiao Zhuan, there were many kinds of characters, such as Da Zhuan, Jinwen and Oracle Bone Inscriptions, but it was not until Xiao Zhuan was formed that China characters began to form. Its outline, strokes and structure are standardized, and there are certain writing methods, which greatly weaken the pictographic characteristics of previous characters and make them more symbolic.
