Song Ke's calligraphy was first taught by Rao Jie, a disciple of Kangli Zishan, and he studied hard in the Zhao sect. He stood out in the early calligraphy circle and became a master of calligraphy that no one could match in the late Yuan Dynasty. He was highly appreciated by his predecessors such as Yang Weizhen. Yang's postscript "Song Zhongwen Shu Tieya Ancient Song" says: "(Song Ke) Yougong and other calligraphers have written works, so Zhongwen must be ordered to calligraphy."
