Zhi Yi Lu lue is a general history of China compiled by Wu Chengquan, a scholar from Yin Shan, Zhejiang Province, and his friends Zhou Jiong and Zhou Zhican during the Kangxi period of Qing Dynasty. Wu Chengquan and others thought that Zi Tong Zhi Jian was too complicated and decided to compile a history book with moderate length, conciseness and moderation.
The time span of Zhi Yi Lu is from ancient myths and legends to Ming Dynasty. It arranges the outline of historical materials according to a certain style, directly records the historical facts of past dynasties under the "outline", and forms a continuous chronological clue under the guidance of specific orthodox ideas. Zi Jian, compiled by Sima Guang in the Northern Song Dynasty, is a chronicle of China, which was rewritten as Zi Jian Outline by Zhu in the Southern Song Dynasty, with an outline before and a purpose after it. The outline is an overview of historical events of past dynasties, with the purpose of detailing historical events of past dynasties. Later, many books adopted this style, commonly known as compendium.
