Li Qingzhao: Dreams never come back

Lin'an Lin'an is half happy and half sad.

One day in July in the fourth year of Shaoxing (1134), Li Qingzhao was sitting alone at home when he heard a knock on the door.

Hearing the sound of this probing knock on the door, I felt strange. I thought, this person must not be my younger brother Li Hao.

When I opened the door, I discovered that it was an old friend—the son of Xie Ke’s cousin, Zhao Mingcheng’s aunt.

He said that his father was ill and wanted to see Li Qingzhao.

On this side, Li Qingzhao must go.

I remember that when she reported Zhang Ruzhou, the Xie Ke family helped, especially Qi Chongli, the son and daughter of the Xie Ke family, who was the key to winning or losing the lawsuit.

It was precisely because of his efforts that Zhang Ruzhou was dismissed from office and exiled, so that he could break free from prison as soon as possible.

In order to thank Qi Chongli, Li Qingzhao also wrote the famous "Qi Chongli Qi, a Scholar in the Imperial Academy".

When Li Qingzhao came to Xie's Mansion, Xie Ke's family was already bedridden. With the help of his son, he reluctantly sat up and asked Li Qingzhao if he still had the "Poetry List of Xie Ci Imperial Letter" in his hand.

One sentence made Li Qingzhao fall into a sad place.

This painting was Zhao Mingcheng’s favorite during his lifetime, but unfortunately it was stolen by thieves.

I couldn’t help but think of the ugly face of the landlord surnamed Zhong, who came to ask for reward money in a pretentious manner.

When the Xie Ke family heard such words, they sighed: "It's just as I expected."

It turned out that a long time ago, a monk asked him to write an inscription on this scroll. He said that he was entrusted by someone, but he didn't say his name.

Seeing that the calligraphy and painting in front of me looked familiar, I wrote on it: "My aunt, Zhao Defu, has shown me to you many times in the past. In this lifetime, I can no longer keep it, and it is sad to see it. Runan Xie Ke's family. Guichou, September 11th, Fahui Temple, Lin'an."

It is said that this masterpiece of calligraphy is a large volume composed of five pieces of paper. It was a sensation at the time.

Forty years later, Mi Fu, a great calligrapher of the generation, saw it and wrote an inscription and postscript with excitement.

Unfortunately, this scroll later ended up in Japan.

Li Qingzhao was deeply touched by this meeting with the Xie Ke family.

A terminally ill person actually still cares about Zhao Mingcheng and his beloved old things.

After returning home, she could no longer control herself. She found the manuscript of "Inscriptions on Gold and Stone" from under the bed and cried on the ground.

Yes, after a year of silence, Li Qingzhao needed a good cry.

Not long after meeting Li Qingzhao, the Xie Ke family passed away.

Li Qingzhao also suddenly realized that he could no longer muddle along like this. Zhao Mingcheng's last wish has not yet been fulfilled, and she cannot let him down.

Li Qingzhao cleaned the tables and chairs, unfolded the book, and began editing "Inscriptions on Gold and Stone".

In that lonely hut, the fragrance of ink floated out again, dancing with the fire.

Li Qingzhao spent his whole life and finally, at the age of fifty-one, wrote the classic text that will be praised by future generations - "Preface to "The Record of Gold and Stone".
