Is Zhu Youxiao really illiterate?
In the Ming Dynasty, a young emperor ascended the throne. Faced with internal and external troubles, he has a soft spot for carpentry. His works such as agarwood rockery and lamp shadow are very beautiful and breathtaking. Later known as the "carpenter emperor." This unique emperor is Zhu Youxiao, the emperor in the late Ming Dynasty. Because Zhu Youxiao was busy as a carpenter and didn't care much about state affairs, he was considered illiterate in the eyes of future generations, but this was not the case. In Xi Shi Lu, Ming Taizu, Liu Yi praised Zhu Youxiao's calligraphy when reviewing the memorial, and Zhu Youxiao also replied that his calligraphy still has room for improvement. In addition, Zhu Youxiao's calligraphy level has also been affirmed by Liu Ruoyu, an important figure of Lindong Party, and Zhu Guozhen, a cabinet scholar. Therefore, Zhu Youxiao is not illiterate or semi-illiterate. Similar rumors of "illiteracy" also appeared in other Ming emperors, such as Zhu Changluo, Emperor Guangzong of Ming Dynasty, and Zhu Houzhao, Emperor Zhengde, but their educational level was not as low as the rumor.
