Su Dongpo's attitude towards life
"A life of twists and turns, broad-mindedness passed down through the ages; eternal glory, four famous articles", someone once described this elegant man with outstanding talents. Since the Song Dynasty, Su Shi has been highly praised and admired by future generations, both for his poems and articles and for his broad-minded attitude towards life. Despite his ill-fated fate and constant tribulations, Su Shi was still able to relax and unwind freely. "A raincoat behind a raincoat, a bamboo stick reaching the end of the world" fully demonstrates his unrestrained and broad-mindedness.
Su Shi stood out from the rest. "On March 7th, it rained in Shadao Lake. The rain gear went first. Everyone in the group was in a panic, but I didn't realize it." Different from the people traveling with us, everyone felt that they were soaked in the rain and felt very embarrassed, but "I" didn't feel that way. On the contrary, I felt that it had a unique charm. Such a strong contrast fully demonstrates Su Shi's spiritual outlook that is different from ordinary people. He is broad-minded, and a large part of his broad-mindedness comes from his perspective on problems that is different from ordinary people. We often say that everything has two sides, Su Shi He is often willing to look at problems from the positive side. Even if he is demoted, he can happily eat Dongpo pork. Even if he is demoted to an isolated island, he can happily admire the unique scenery here. In contrast to others who ended up depressed after being demoted, Su Shi faced it calmly, and he made great contributions to the people politically. Of course, this does not mean that Su Shi is always positive and optimistic when he encounters problems. He will also see the negative, and negative emotions will also affect him. However, he can always adjust himself well, prevent negative emotions from expanding, and continue to be positive and open-minded. Face your own bad experiences with an attitude that is highly praised by our descendants and something that we should learn from.
? Su Shi is fearless by insisting on himself. In the second year of Yuanfeng, Emperor Shenzong of the Song Dynasty (1079), Su Shi was slandered by the New Party for slandering the imperial court because he wrote a poem that satirized the new law, causing the "Wutai Poetry Case". He was demoted to Huangzhou four months later. The incident of the "Wutai Poetry Case", as well as Su Shi's disapproval of the complete negation of the new law when the conservatives later came back to power, are enough to show that Su Shi always insisted on his own character, even if he was repeatedly demoted.
? It doesn’t matter the wind or rain, Su Shi is open-minded and unrestrained. "Don't listen to the sound of beating leaves through the forest, why not scream and walk slowly. The bamboo stick and mango shoes are lighter than the horse. Who is afraid? A misty rain is left for the rest of your life." The cold spring breeze blows the drunkenness, but the slightly cold mountain top welcomes you. Looking back, you have always been there. It's a desolate place, and when I go back, there's no wind, rain, or sunshine. "Look at the rain hitting the leaves in the forest. It's raining so hard, but it doesn't matter. It's whistling slowly. Although it is written about the immediate situation, it is not the situation Su Shi faced at that time. A storm is used as a metaphor for his own situation, and the word "why not" shows Su Shi's fearlessness in the face of wind and rain. "I" wear mango shoes and carry a bamboo cane. Am I not better than those who ride horses and have higher official positions than me? Look, Su Shi is so proud of his life. "Who is afraid? You can live your whole life in the rain." Su Shi extended the storm in front of him to the storm in his own life. No matter the wind and rain, no matter how strong the wind and rain are, Su Shi still goes his own way and doesn't take your storm into consideration. But when we go back, no matter whether it is rainy or sunny, "my" life will still be enjoyable.
Su Shi’s greatest personality charm lies in his open-mindedness and optimism in the face of wind and rain. But his charisma doesn't stop there. He is a literary master, a calligrapher, and a gourmet. He combines talents and virtues that are really out of reach now. No wonder, in a thousand years, there was only one Su Shi.
