Who was Cai among the four great calligraphers in Song Dynasty? Why?

Cai is Cai Xiang.

Su Shi, Huang Tingjian, Mi Fei and Cai Xiang are the representatives of calligraphers in Song Dynasty, and they are called "Song Sijia" in history.

Cai Xiang (10 12- 1067) was born in Xianyou, Xinghua (now Xianyou, Fujian). Guan Yu, a bachelor of Ming Temple, is called "Cai Duanming". Cai Xiang can write regular script, running script and cursive script. Among the Song Sijia, he is the oldest and the last one, so some people think that the "Cai" of "Su Huang Camouflage" originally refers to the traitor Cai Jing, who was replaced by Cai Xiang because of Cai Jing's disaster to the country and people.

However, Cai Xiang's calligraphy was regarded as the first in the Song Dynasty, especially Ouyang Xiu and Su Dongpo, who regarded him as "the first in this dynasty". Its calligraphy can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty and the Jin Dynasty, with regular script from Yan Zhenqing, running script from Yu Shinan, and the skills of Chu Suiliang and Xu Haozhi, forming a peaceful, dignified and graceful style. Pay attention to the structure, no pens, and there are few indulgent pens. Many books have been handed down, such as The Story of Wan 'anqiao and The Story of Zhou Jintang. Running scripts include Tang Tie and Zi Juan.
