I learned calligraphy from my master and wrote notes for 2 weeks. I deeply felt the isolation and lack of my own knowledge, and worshiped the knowledge system of the great masters. A tall building rises from the ground, but you still understand the accumulated dividends, so let’s start with the cards introduced by the master’s master.
The following is Master’s introduction about cards. Please enjoy it. My dear friend, he will definitely forgive me for announcing his results without applying. In the future, Master will hold card classes. I hope friends who are destined to come will come with me. study.
To put it simply, the card method was not proposed by Yang Zhiping or any other knowledge internet celebrity. In essence, the card method is to use cards to record the "points" that you are concerned about, and then the accumulated cards are connected from point to area to form a knowledge grid and build your own knowledge system. So why do we use the term card method? It’s because Teacher Yang Zhiping formed a card methodology. Thereby leading to better accumulation and output.
I will share my understanding and practice methods from several aspects of Taoist tools.
Tao, that is, principle, also emphasizes the principle of card method. From the perspective of cognitive science, if a person wants to memorize an entire article in one breath when inputting and outputting, he needs photographic memory. If he wants to memorize the knowledge of a book in one breath, unless Zhou Yu , Huang Rong's regeneration, otherwise it would be almost impossible. But by organizing, memorizing, understanding, and outputting around a certain point of interest, this Chinese talent can be realized. This is the principle of the card method. When you study, start as small as possible.
What is the difference between this guide and the RIA sticky note reading method I learned before?
The Tao of Card Dafa is based on the perspective of cognitive science, which emphasizes output. Our RIA learning method focuses on input. The same is to generate cards. The card method generates one card at one point, and RIA generates 3 cards (I, A1, A2), but RIA emphasizes detachability, and must have a how or process HOW, emphasizing the minimum action (i.e. actions that can be carried out), the card method focuses on the card itself and emphasizes that the card must form a complete closed loop.
The so-called card method comes from the content of Yang Zhiping’s cognitive writing course. If we define it, it is a way of internalizing, outputting and chunking knowledge using cards as a carrier.
1. What is a card?
Although Yang Zhiping distinguished between electronic cards and paper cards, in my actual application, I found that the core is the paper card.
Card refers to a single-sided paper approximately A6 size (can be adjusted according to your actual needs, but it is not recommended to be too small or too large). During reading or studying, use this carrier to write knowledge on cards.
So besides using cards instead of letter paper/note paper/notebook/handbook/electronic device, what is the difference between this type of recording and letter paper/note paper/notebook/handbook/electronic device? ?
First, the characteristics of the card itself allow it to be spliced ??more flexibly. Putting cards together can create more inspirations. This kind of splicing is different from notebooks and mobile phones. Accounts and other carriers are the key.
Secondly, the size of the card determines the limitation of information recording. I found that the size of the card recommended by Yang Zhiping comes from the "Kyoto" recommended in the book "The Production Technology of Knowledge" by Ume Chuo Nakao, Japan. "Big Card", about the size of B6 (22.8*18.2)
During the communication with card users such as Junyu, I found that they advocate the use of paper cards, on the one hand, to prevent being constrained by electronic devices At the same time, another key point is that several cards can be placed on the table or bed for splicing to better inspire your own inspiration. This is not only difficult to do in notebooks, but also in various note-taking software in electronic devices. arrive.
What we are talking about here are its benefits, and then we will talk about its specific applications.
2. How to use cards
When we have some such cards on hand, how should we use these cards?
Here are three principles, five norms and seven applications.
There are three principles:
First, one thing, one discussion, that is, only write one thing on a card. This is actually not difficult. It is basically difficult to write too many other things on such a palm-sized paper.
Second, express relevant content completely and clearly.
Cards are knowledge cards, not summary notes, so you need to use complete sentences to clearly express what you are thinking and feeling. It cannot be a simple list, summary or picturesque mind map that only lists keywords. The expression must be clear and complete p>
Third, mark the original source and time on the card. This is so that this card can be better reused and referenced in the future.
There are five standards
1. You need to have a good title, and the location is eye-catching and easy to remember
2. Indicate the time and source, trace the source without replacing
3. It’s good to quote other people’s opinions and prepare your own personal feelings
4. The series number can be edited, and labels can be used to create themes
5. Don’t be afraid of spending money when writing on one side, just accumulate them one by one
The most important thing is the seven types of cards.
1. Action cards
This is quite different from our method of opening books to help read notes. Our sticky note reading method emphasizes practice, so the format is relatively fixed. Be sure to find fragments that contain how or can be broken out of how, and then retell the knowledge in your own words (I), and tell a story about your past to activate past experience (A1) , and then plan actionable actions in the future (A2).
This is similar to the action cards in Card Dafa. Action cards refer to cards that are inspired by actions generated during learning, thinking or reading. His basic structure is: principle-action-source. After you have feelings that you want to put into practice while reading, you can design an action card: What kind of truth is said in the book, what kind of action do I plan to take, and where does it come from? Attached to our sticky note reading method, you can use I-A2-R to do it, but it is actually very different.
The first difference is that he just has a principle. It does not have to be a fragment of how, and of course it is not limited to splitting pages. It may be the intention of action after reading the entire book, or it may be a certain A chapter, a certain paragraph leading to a certain action you want to take.
The second difference is that he advocates turning principles into actions. He does not care whether he can activate his past experiences or whether he can fully tell his A1 story. What he emphasizes is - to be touched, Take action.
The third difference is that there is no need to copy the original R text, but just indicate the source.
This is what action cards are for. In addition to action cards, there are six different types of cards: counter-intuitive cards, terminology cards, saying cards, picture cards, name cards, and skill cards.
2. Counter-common sense cards
Counter-common sense cards are cards used to expand the boundaries of our cognition. There are many things that we are so accustomed to that we are no longer surprised. Discovering something different from our daily cognition in reading can greatly activate our cognitive interest and allow us to expand our cognitive boundaries.
His structure is: what you thought was common sense in the past - counter-common sense knowledge - examples - sources.
When we read a book, especially a non-fiction work, there are often some or many points that make our eyes shine. These points that make us shine are contrary to common sense. In the final analysis, the counter-common sense here is contrary to our past common sense. For example, before participating in the book-opening training camp, you may have to finish reading a book to be satisfied, but "Reading This Way is Enough" emphasizes the action of opening pages. This was counter-intuitive to my previous self. How do we write this counter-intuitive card?
An example to show you:
Title: Reading (practical) books is to use them rather than to finish them
(Common sense) We usually start from When I was a student, I was accustomed to reading a book from beginning to end. I thought that only by reading it and then remembering it could I complete the mission of reading a book. Then "Reading This Way Is Enough" tells us that when adults read practical books, the key is not whether they have finished reading the book, but whether we have used the book in practice?
(Counter common sense) A practical book, if it contains some valuable skills for our work, study and life, we can summarize and summarize them after reading them, and plan to apply them to actual work and life. , produces actual results, then the value of reading this book will definitely far exceed the price of the book itself.
Just imagine reading a book and mastering some methods and skills that will allow you to find your favorite job, chase the girl you love, and let your children grow up obediently, listen, listen, and thrive. Isn’t this value much higher than the price of the book? ?

3. Terminology Card
Next, let’s talk about term cards. This is very interesting.
When we are reading, for some difficult books, especially some professional books, will we have a feeling of "I know every word in the book, and it is difficult to connect them together". What about the feeling like “I can’t understand”?
It is not ruled out that some authors deliberately use some terms to appear incomprehensible, but there are also some terms that are the essence of books. When you understand this terminology, you may really understand the book itself.
Another situation is that in this book, the author uses a lot of terms that you don’t understand. How to judge whether this guy is really knowledgeable or is he deliberately pretending to be 13? It may be easier for you to assess the value of the book by finding the original source of these terms and discovering that they were made up by the author, or that they were random slang.
The structure of the term card is: definition-understanding-example-source.
A definition is the exact meaning you can find of the term.
Understand, use your own words to explain how you understand this term, including but not limited to the connotation and denotation of this term, its main features, specific application scenarios, etc.
Example: Give a specific example to better understand this term.
Provenance: Where it comes from.
The point that needs to be emphasized here is that you can find earlier sources for this term. For example, Chengjia's "Study Well" contains several key terms, such as representation and multiple thinking models. After you define and understand these two terms, it is best to indicate the more original source you can find in the source. This can help you find the source of the source, and make it less likely to be fooled by high-level nouns.
For example: some teachers often emphasize dimensionality reduction, entropy, and debilitating compensation.
What are the definitions of these terms? Does his expression and application extend beyond the original definition and origin of the term? How do you understand its application? Can you find more suitable expressions and examples?
In this way, you will become more and more aware of the difference between real terminology and nonsense.
4. Golden Sentence Cards
Golden Sentence Cards are a knowledge card recording method that shines in my eyes. They are used to record sexy sentences.
In primary school Chinese classes, for example, Teacher Luye must often ask children to record and recite good words and sentences in the text. So, is the same true for the golden sentence cards in the card method?
Yes, the Golden Sentence Card is actually a record of good words and sentences with understanding and appreciation.
Its structure is: golden sentences, appreciation, and sources.
Let me say one more thing here, my personal understanding. Golden phrase cards can have higher-end applications, and the golden phrases themselves are good and impactful sentences. Let’s record it and appreciate why it’s good, and then what?
We can also do two things:
1. Imitation sentences. Rewrite other people's quotes into your own.
2. Find applicable scenarios. When do you think it is most appropriate for you to apply this sentence? Used for future splicing.
For example, there is a sentence in "The Sea of ??Life", "Life is a juicer that blasts people into dregs, but people themselves are the number one part in the squeezer." I imitated a sentence: "AV movie producers are the juicers of those girls. They will not stop until they squeeze the girls into juice, but the girls themselves are the best raw materials for the juicers, and they continue to do so." When writing "AV It can be used when reviewing the book "History of Film".
5. Name cards
Name cards are similar to term cards. When books frequently mention a certain character, especially knowledge-based books repeatedly mention an awesome character, You might as well make a name card and see where it comes from. Help you better find the source. There are masters in the so-called works of masters. Through name cards, you can sort out the network of experts in a field.
Charlie Munger in "Study Hard", Nabokov and Stan Stanovich in "Patterns of Life" are all characters closely related to learning the knowledge of this book. Making a name card can help you understand quickly. .
For example, when I was reading a light novel "What If the Female Manager of the High School Baseball Team Read Peter Drucker", Peter Drucker's name appeared repeatedly in the book, so I made a name card. It was found that his most outstanding achievements are two: management by objectives and career theory. Then it will be easy to handle. Basically, the hidden thread of the story of this book is how to use business theory and goal management to make a baseball team prosperous. As for what management by objectives is and what career theory is, you don’t know? If you don’t know, just make two terminology cards.
6. Graphic cards
Graphic cards express information in the form of diagrams.
The illustrations here can be those in books. You mark them and add your own understanding and source as important knowledge to learn. It can also be a graphical expression where a picture is worth a thousand words, using diagrams to express your understanding and internalization of book knowledge.
There are many commonly used diagram structures. Card Dafa proposes a two-three-four-five method for diagramming. Examples are contrast, triangle, matrix, and pentagon. I suggest that if you want to make illustrations but don't know how to do it, the easiest way is to open your word, find and insert smartart intelligent graphics, and it is easiest to refer to his illustrations to imitate cats and tigers.
7. Skill cards
Skill cards are somewhat similar to action cards and are used to summarize learned action skills.
The basic structure is: technique-principle-source.
The difference from action cards is that skill cards summarize and record the skills learned, analyze the principles, and indicate the source. They do not emphasize the need to plan and apply them in a certain period of time in the future. We keep it, maybe we can use it, maybe we can’t use it, but we can teach others to use it.
The above is a basic introduction to the seven types of cards. I would like to emphasize again that from my understanding, the card method is a way of output, and it is a very effective way of output. It emphasizes completeness and self-consistency, and emphasizes marking. The source is to better connect the blocks and form your own work better.
