How vulgar are calligraphers in Han Liping?

Recently, the writer Jia Pingwa's handwriting was really ridiculed by a professor. Scholars love to scold, but since ancient times, why do they love to scold and write? There is a reason for being emboldened. China's tradition has always attached importance to morality and despised literature and art. Sages have the confidence to scold philosophers, while philosophers despise scholars. Scholars can only scold artists if they want to scold them. Scholars are "dissatisfied", and even Tai Shigong admits that he was "teased" by others. Calligraphers of course laugh at themselves. However, after bidding farewell to the traditional society and passing through the twentieth century, this arrogant capital of literati has long since disappeared. Therefore, today's calligraphers are generally only satisfied with being artists, and no longer expect "amateur literati" and "game calligraphy".

Jia Pingwa's ridicule is polite, far less than Chen Duxiu's blow to Shen: "Its vulgarity lies in the bones." It is said that Shen suddenly woke up and "repented" from then on, feeling deeply burdened, and the quarrel became a much-told story. However, this is not the case. After meeting again in Sichuan 30 years later, Chen is still dissatisfied with Shen Zi. He wrote to Shen's disciple Tai Jingnong: "There are no words outside the words, just like thirty years ago." It seems that the custom of going deep into the bone marrow is really difficult to eradicate, and sometimes it is inevitable to bring it into the coffin.

Calligraphers are called vulgar, which seems to have a long history. In the Ming Dynasty, Zhang Bi was good at cursive script, which was called "Zhang Dian's comeback" and "bizarre ups and downs, shocking the world". At that time, there was a scholar named Mr. Zhuang Chang of Dingshan, also known as the living water Weng, who called Zhang Bi's ci "wonderful to the extreme, vulgar to the extreme". Later, someone asked Zhuang Chang how to play a good role and replied, "When you write about benefits, you become poor." In the late Qing Dynasty, Liu Xizai reversed this statement and said it again: "The ugliness to the extreme is the beauty to the extreme."

For the late calligrapher, it is even more unscrupulous to scold from a distance. In the Qing Dynasty, Fu Shan was called "the foal king has no bones"; in the Southern Song Dynasty, Zhu accused Su and Huang of being "badly scrawled"; in the Northern Song Dynasty, Mi Fei called Yan and vitamins "vulgar" in the Tang Dynasty; and Liu Gongquan was even named "the father of ugliness and faithfulness". In his later years, Mi Fei was called into the palace by Song Huizong to write plays. When he finished writing, he threw away his pen and said arrogantly and obsequiously, "Wash away the bad letters of the two kings" and "shine on the emperor and the Song Dynasty forever". Before Mi Fei, Han Yu cursed Wang Xizhi, a book saint. He said, "This is a font that Wang Xizhi is familiar with, although it is very beautiful.".

Comparatively speaking, although ancient literary circles and poetry circles often criticize and abuse, they don't seem as straightforward as book circles, and a word "vulgar" can scold everything. Why? Because morality is emphasized, literature is ignored, and art is low. Calligraphy became vulgar at the end of the career. To make Chinese characters better, we need unremitting efforts, mastery of brushwork and attention to spiritual personality.

Being called vulgar is not a bad thing. At least two "Song Sijia" were called out. In the early years of Yuan You, Valley and Dongpo visited Baofan Temple together, eager to make grass. Dongpo praised them, and suddenly a man scolded them from the side: "The word Lu Zhi is close to vulgarity!" This person is the money that asked Dongpo to eat "three meals", and the word is Mu Fu. After the valley was scolded, he stopped being a grass maker until he lived in Fuling in his later years. When he saw the original Confessions, he suddenly realized that it was a pity that "Mu's father had been dead for a long time". Sumen Qin Guan was also scolded by Qian Mufu, so he changed his mind, but later he wrote the word "many people are not good". Xie Qian accused Miffy of "depicting too much". From then on, Mifei made a fuss, and Dong Qichang praised him for "returning the meat to the mother and the bone to the father".

Calligraphers' "vulgarity" has a long history and is strongly manifested today. The current "vulgar" is mainly so heavy:

First: Jianghu customs. Ignorance, ignorance of classics, ignorance of brushwork, and even ignorance of words are fearless. The content of calligraphy is mostly ancient poetry, and it needs to be written in classical Chinese, so if the cultural level is lacking, it will be exposed without discount. Except for this ordinary bone, it is not worthy of being called "home". But the current situation is that the calligraphy circle, rivers and lakes, low threshold, gray time, southern emperors and northern beggars, three religions and nine streams, bustling. Some people can't stand it, politicians and businessmen can't stand it, and finally they can only scold literati. On the other hand, today's literati are really disappointing and their brushwork is unreasonable. When they write, they are all Jianghu-style. For example, Ouyang Xiu called the literati in the Northern Song Dynasty "often only writing" and often called himself a "scholar", not to mention others.

Second: the custom of the temple. I have studied books for many years, and my technology is improving and perfect. Some are calligraphy doctors, calligraphy tutors or the chairman of the book association, who are in charge of the temple of the book world and have a prosperous business. However, it pays too much attention to form, and it is written like an array of soldiers and forethought. Now my mind is full of machine hearts. Just like Huang Tingjian said, "The steps are too revealing, and the spirit is not as good as that", "Every word is antique and tacky". After all, technology is limited. To paraphrase Fu Shan: "If you think carefully, you will get the best result. What's the use? " Deliberately seeking goodness, lacking implication, shielding temperament, lacking knowledge and personality.

Third: the custom of Lingtai. From birth to maturity, and from maturity to survival, I want to show my face, reform and innovate, and deliberately show myself differently. Liu Xizai said, "First you need to work without working, and then you need to work without working." So, you can sing strange books, ugly books and growling books, and I will appear. In fact, if you want to get rid of the customs of pen and ink, you must first get rid of the customs of Lingtai. Ggv 10 has the idea of seeking fame and winning, but it is stupid under the wrist. Shi Tao's name is not vulgar, but he said, "Even if I don't write, ink or draw, I will still be there." I want to "shine light in the chaos." Man is not a god, and it cannot be said that there is light when there is light. Light is not the calligraphy itself, but the whole personality behind the pen and ink. The ancients said that goodness is "a big festival that cannot be taken away", not a maverick in the form of pen and ink.

Xu said: "True art transcends similarities and differences." Beyond the similarities and differences, it is not "no rain or shine", but all "Yang Shu's gloom" is the third custom of "based on the heart of heaven and earth", which is hard to get rid of and the last level. If you can't get up, you will eventually fall to second place. If you show up, you will find Tian Tong Street. Its state is hard to say. Huang Tingjian had an experience in his later years, which is recorded as follows:

The book of the old man could not have been written. However, when we look at the myriad causes in the world, such as the gathering and scattering of gnats, we have never seen anything across our chest, so we don't choose pen and ink, we write books when we meet paper, and we run out of paper, and we don't care about the clumsy workmanship and ridiculous gameplay of other people's products. For example, in Woodenhead's dance, people lament their work and the dance is bleak.
