Chunyang Temple is the largest Taoist temple in Guangzhou and a municipal cultural relic protection unit. Chunyang Temple is located in Shuzhugang, Haizhu District. It was built in the fourth year of Daoguang reign in the Qing Dynasty (1824 AD).

Now only the mountain gate, Lingguan Hall, main hall, worship pavilion, Chao Doupai and Li Mingche's tomb remain. Among them, Chaodou Terrace is where Li Mingche observed astronomical phenomena and is the only remaining ancient observatory in Guangzhou. Chunyang Hall is the main hall in the temple, dedicated to "Chun Yangzi" Lu Dongbin. The Spiritual Palace is a palace dedicated to the Heavenly Palace of the Lord’s soul. Yang Han Temple and Qing Xian Temple are dedicated to Yang Han and Cui Yu, two famous scholars in ancient Lingnan. Chao Dou Tai is behind the Chunyang Hall, where Li Mingche compiled "General Chronicles of Guangdong?" During the "Yu Ge Lue" period, it was a phenomenon platform built to observe changes in weather and stars.

According to geologists’ research, Shuzhugang was formed by the accumulation of lava erupted by a volcano 200 million years ago. Celebrities such as Yang Fu in the Han Dynasty, Cui Jupo in the Song Dynasty, and Ju Lian, the originator of the Lingnan School of Painting in the Qing Dynasty, all set up accounts here to give lectures. Chunyang Temple was built by Li Mingche, the founder of Lingnan Taoism in the Qing Dynasty, in the fourth year of Daoguang. Since it was returned to Taoist management in 1987, we renovated Chunyang Temple in 2003. The project lasted 7 years and is still being improved.

The environment of Shuzhugang where Chunyang Temple is located is elegant and quiet, with old pines and strange rocks, lush and pleasant. It has always been a summer resort. Since the Han Dynasty, it has been home to famous officials such as Yang Fu and Cui Yu. It was here that during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty, with the support of Ruan Yuan, the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi, the astronomer Li Mingche founded the Chunyang Temple. Due to Li Mingche's erudition, knowledge of the past and present, proficiency in poetry, calligraphy, painting and astronomy, Chunyang Temple became famous in the Lingnan art circle, including Su Liupeng, Ju Chao, Ju Lian and their disciples Gao Jianfu and Gao Qifeng. , Chen Shuren and other literati created and communicated here, and formed the "Plum Club".
