In the twenty-fifth year of Guangxu, when Wang himself took medicine from the Heniantang, he bought a kind of medicinal material called keel, studied the graphics and characters on it, and bought it in large quantities through Shandong antique dealer Fan. Wang first discovered Oracle Bone Inscriptions and dated it to Shang Dynasty.
This discovery caused a sensation in Chinese and foreign academic circles, pushing the history of Chinese characters to the Shang Dynasty, which was more than 700 years BC/kloc-0, and became the originator of Oracle Bone Inscriptions studies.
