Famous comments

Liu Dawei (Chairman of China Artists Association)

Yu Fuzi was born in Banqiao's hometown and lived in the ancient capital of Jinling. The fertile soil of Wu and Yue culture and the innovative spirit of "Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics" provide its cultural heritage. Rich life experience and traces all over Europe and America provide him with unlimited imagination space; His keen intuition, bold personality and innovative quality make his creations gush out continuously. Yu Fuzi's works not only make people realize the neutrality of Confucianism, the nothingness of Taoism and the truth of Buddhism, but also make people appreciate the gorgeous, flashy and fantastic artistic conception of western art, thus integrating the mystery of China's ink painting with the exquisiteness of western art. Undoubtedly, Yu Fuzi's paintings not only bring new breath to China art, but also inspire painters and critics. It is true that it is not easy to escape from the deep-rooted traditional artistic thinking, but to form a unique style requires tenacious pursuit. Fortunately, Yu Fuzi is in his prime, energetic, savvy and diligent in writing. There will be great achievements in artistic creation in the future.

Li Xiaoshan (Director of Institute of Fine Arts, curator of Nanjing Sifang Contemporary Art Museum, famous art critic)

A friend took me to see Ge Zengming's painting called Jade Buddha. At first glance, I was quite surprised. I thought my brother was just a hobby, and painting was fun, but I didn't expect to paint professionally, which was much better than many so-called professional painters who hung sheep's heads and sold dog meat. This shows that painting needs a kind of intelligence, enthusiasm and cleanliness. I've seen too many greedy guys. Painting is just their trademark. They hang out in official positions and get a false name like first-class painters as a deceptive capital. Anyway, there are many arty people in society. They are like a duck to water and have unlimited scenery, but there are curses behind them, leaving only the laughing stock of the painting world.

Lao Ge is a real amateur painter. There are many busy things in his work, but the number of his paintings is simply amazing. Once, I looked at his painting for a long time and almost fainted. I only saw half of it. Lao Ge himself said that besides going to work, his only activity to kill time is painting. After work, he often paints until two or three in the middle of the night, which is beyond the energy limit of normal people. I even envy such a selfless state, a detached state, which guarantees a person to sprint to a certain goal with all his energy. I'm not saying how much Ge expects of his paintings. According to my observation, he often lacks judgment on the effect of his works and throws away some clever and wonderful paintings. Indeed, he paints more for sustenance, but to find happiness in painting, which is very different from the painter's begging for rice and beams.

As we all know, there is an old saying, if you have a heart, you can't plant flowers, but if you don't have a heart, you will get a shade. Lao Ge's painting relies on his natural understanding and inspiration, and of course it is also related to his love of literature and art since childhood. His paintings can hardly be called freehand brushwork, because "freehand brushwork" is a conventional saying of literati painting and has been overused by people. Lao Ge's paintings have "freehand brushwork" elements, but they highlight expressionism and splash ink abstractly, which is very experimental. A critic friend of mine doesn't like the word "experiment" and thinks it is an immature stage. My opinion is different. "Experiment" is the basic quality of an artist. Without "experiment", there would be no exploration and innovation, so I have always had a good impression on painters who dare to "experiment". Lao Ge doesn't add artificial bridle to his own creation, and he can paint at will, which opens up a lot of free space for his own creation. From another perspective, this is also the advantage of "amateur" painters. There is no burden, no frame, and I am not pedantic like some "professional" painters. I am afraid that others will say that my basic skills are not enough, so I cling to stereotypes.

Some westerners like and appreciate Lao Ge's paintings, which is well-founded. Our appreciation of art is based on familiarity and strangeness. Being too familiar means nothing new, and being too strange makes the judge unable to find a reference. Foreigners obviously like China's ink painting because of its special expressive force. Brother has developed it to the point where many possibilities can be found, such as the expressive force of ink drops and the richness of abstract ways. For more than ten years, a group of painters who are interested in ink painting have accumulated a solid foundation in this respect, while Lao Ge has shown another way with his special personality. He didn't get too close to the style of western abstract painting, nor did he fall into the emptiness and blindness brought by "experiment". His schema still has typical China characteristics.

Ge once asked me to make some "valuable" comments on his paintings, but I just laughed and didn't answer, because I know that artists don't need any hints when creating, they must get inspiration from experience and reach a final understanding from small details. Zeng Guofan said a very simple sentence: but seek hard work, not harvest. I understand that the relationship between cultivation and harvest is natural. Old Ge Re always keeps his original state of mind, and I'm afraid even he can't think of what he will gain in the future!

Cheng Dali (former president of People's Fine Arts Publishing House, a famous painter)

Painting is a personal cultural phenomenon. Through painting, we can know the author's interests and personality. Of course, cultivation is the first information to be revealed. We can know whether a person is lovely, amiable or respectable by drawing. You can also know that a person is boring, unqualified or tasteless. We talked to the author before painting, but we were silent but excited. What moves us is painting, and painting is sound.

The beauty of Chinese painting lies in his understanding of images. Figurative, imagery and psychological imagery, which looks mysterious, is actually the door to all miracles. A group of western expressionist painters have a lot of experience in China's theory of "mental image", and a number of good works have emerged. From the spiritual image, we can see that Gog, the painter's talent and personality have left a track, which we can enjoy calmly.

Yu Fuzi is a painter full of passion, potential and talent. Obviously, he is sensual and doesn't mind reasoning. In fact, his feelings about reasoning vary from person to person. He doesn't stick to the usual skills, but goes straight to the point-expressing his mind. All paintings are spiritual images, and the world in the painter's personal eyes is dazzling, bizarre, confused, quiet, dreamy and infatuated, which coincides with the western expressionist painters, but it is also full of oriental sentiment and China charm.

Yu Fuzi's paintings are consistent with the aesthetic laws of China's traditional pen and ink, which are virtual and real, sparse and dense, strange and positive, and the rhythm of dry and wet shades is in harmony with people's visual laws. Elephants are invisible, and Yu Zi doesn't win by form, but his schema and the world of pen and ink colors can make waves in the hearts of the audience, making people and painters sing for it. He himself said it well. His works are "the rhythm of life, the expression of passion, the appearance of aesthetic concepts and the display of life experience." Yu Fuzi's personal language implies "image", which is the natural expression of "mental image", which also proves the law of diversification of painting forms. From a macro point of view, the pluralistic existence of various artistic languages is a historical phenomenon. In the past, historian He Rong said: "Peony is good, clove is good" is the truth. Therefore, in the face of diverse artistic phenomena, we should be more peaceful and tolerant, and should not be measured by biased or narrow traditional views.

/kloc-Van Gogh and Cezanne took the lead in breaking through the system of "simulated realism" based on epistemology in the early 20th century, greatly weakening the objective truth of "shape", strengthening the subjective consciousness of "shape and color" and establishing a modern image view different from the traditional one. Later painters further dismembered the tradition of "simulated realism" and sought "isomorphism and unity" Ancient artists such as Xu Wei and the Eighth National Congress set an example for us. Their contribution is the development of ideas, not just pen and ink. Compared with master's paintings, I appreciate that he has taken a metaphysical road, and the passion, vitality and truth of the soul revealed in his works are still very touching. I wish Yu Fuzi greater success.

Gerhardt Matthias (Dean of Mathias Art Institute, Professor of Art Institute of Kassel University, and connoisseur of modern art)

Ge Zengming's paintings, especially ink paintings, are modern, avant-garde and have the spirit of China. There is an experiment in Ge Zengming's paintings, which embodies his artistic language and personality. Ge Zengming's paintings are not only abstract art, but also experimental ink paintings. The composition is ethereal, and the ink painting is naturally smudged and beautiful.
