The steps to make an antique lantern by hand are as follows:
Tools/materials: glue, handmade paper, four pieces of beautiful antique paper, and a small wooden stick.
1. First use pink handmade paper to rub a thin strip of paper.
2. Prepare 12 pieces of the same paper strips in different colors.
3. Place four pieces of one color into a square, and fix the connections with hot melt glue.
4. Prepare two identical squares one step up, and stand up the remaining thin sticks between the two squares.
5. Once completed, it will be such a frame.
6. Hand-glue the four vertical frames with the prepared antique paper as shown in the picture above. You only need to glue its sides.
7. After the lantern theme is completed, hang a tassel underneath it.
8. Tie a small rope to the top of the lantern so that it can be hung on a small stick.
Mid-Autumn Festival
Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as Moon Festival, Moonlight Festival, Moon Eve, Autumn Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, Moon Worship Festival, Moon Niang Festival, Moon Festival, and Reunion Festival etc., is a traditional Chinese folk festival. It is a traditional cultural festival popular among many ethnic groups in China and countries in the cultural circle of Chinese characters. It falls on the fifteenth day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar; because it happens to be in the middle of the third autumn, it is called the Mid-Autumn Festival. The Mid-Autumn Festival originated in ancient times, became popular in the Han Dynasty, and was finalized in the Tang Dynasty. The Mid-Autumn Festival, Spring Festival, Qingming Festival and Dragon Boat Festival are also known as the four traditional festivals in China.
On May 20, 2006, the State Council included it in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists. Since 2008, the Mid-Autumn Festival has been listed as a national statutory holiday. The traditional activities of the Mid-Autumn Festival include: admiring the moon, guessing riddles, eating moon cakes, drinking osmanthus wine, playing with lanterns, drawing rabbits, etc. Mooncakes are one of the most famous traditional Chinese pastries and are a customary food during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Moon cakes are round and round, and are eaten by the whole family, symbolizing reunion and harmony.
