The person who wrote the school motto was the calligrapher Wei Tianchi. This school motto was determined through extensive solicitation during the 100th anniversary of Nanjing Normal University.
The explanation of Zhengde is: integrity and virtue. Among the various qualities of a person or a company, morality is the first and most indispensable. Virtue occupies the most important position in a person or company. Good moral character is not only the conscience of society, but also the driving force of the country, because the world is ruled by virtue.
"Zuo Zhuan" explains "enhancement of welfare" as follows: "Through weak taxation and light taxation, without taking away agricultural time, the people's livelihood will be improved, and they will have sufficient food and clothing." The understanding of the meaning of welfare is that the purpose of life is not only to live for oneself, but to use one's intelligence and ability to help others and society. This will not only benefit others, but also make one's own life fuller.
The meaning of "Du" is honesty, honesty and loyalty. Therefore, the ancients generally associated the word "Du" with being a good person, such as "Du Zhi", "Du faith", "Du Xing" and so on. You must have character as a person, and you must also have character in your studies. This is "study diligently", which means doing knowledge honestly and conscientiously.
The words "Min He Xing" appear many times in Confucius' "The Analects of Confucius". For example: "A gentleman is slow in words but quick in deeds", "A gentleman is quick in things but cautious in words", "First do what he says and then follow it". "A gentleman is ashamed of his words but his deeds". "Agility" means agility, and "action" is the same as what we call "practice" today. The so-called "agility" means having the courage to practice, being quick, seizing opportunities, and being good at seizing opportunities.
