Since the Southern Dynasties, Qinhuai River has become a settlement of noble families. There are many restaurants on both sides of the strait, with rich wine fragrance and melodious music. Countless merchant ships shuttle across the river day and night, and many singers stay in them. The literati lingers among them, and the beautiful story is passed down through the ages. Qinhuai River and Confucius Temple have even become gathering places for literati and scholars. During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, the Qinhuai River gradually declined, and was once neglected, but it attracted countless literati and poets to pay their respects here. Jiangnan Gongyuan was founded in the Southern Song Dynasty and became the largest imperial examination room in ancient China, so Qinhuai gradually recovered as the cultural center of Jiangnan.
The Ming and Qing Dynasties, especially the Ming Dynasty, were the heyday of Shili Qinhuai, with rich and beautiful women and numerous brothels. The original painter Ling Bo became the land of beautiful women in the south of the Yangtze River. Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang of the Ming Dynasty ordered 10,000 small lanterns to be set off on the Qinhuai River during the Lantern Festival. On both sides of Qinhuai River, the Ling Bo, the original painting, and the sound of paddle lights constitute a fantastic spectacle.
In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, Yan Yan's story in Qinhuai was even more popular. Today, Qinhuai River is already a tourist attraction and a city river with profound cultural heritage, which is worth visiting.
