SQ3R Learning Method
Open Category: Learning Method
This learning method was proposed by Robinson and is popular in American colleges and universities. It is understood that this method is very popular among college students in my country. They feel that everyone can try this method and it will achieve certain results. SQ3R stands for: Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Revise.
l. Overview An overview is to quickly browse the whole book, clarify the basic content of the book, and have a preliminary impression of the author's basic views. Generally speaking, first read the author's preface (preface) or postscript, to understand the author's intention and purpose of writing this book, and then carefully consult its table of contents and index. If possible, skim the abstract or summary of each chapter to make sure you read the whole book, or select some chapters for intensive reading. An overview can often help you learn the latest information and inspire your own ideas.
2. Questioning During the learning process, college students must not only learn to solve problems, but more importantly, learn to ask questions. When reading, you should capture problems through the words and sentences in the book, dare to doubt where there is no doubt, and put forward your own ideas. At the same time, you should carefully consider some of the views, compare and connect them with the relevant views you have, make comments and ask questions. If you have questions, you will explore them further, and you may come up with new ideas.
3. Reading The purpose of reading is to correctly understand and deeply grasp the essence of the article, to learn the key chapters thoroughly, to achieve a comprehensive understanding, and to make it a solid foundation for one's own knowledge structure. The best state of reading is to "understand things that are not in the book." It is to know how to see darkness from light, movement from stillness, and right from wrong. When reading, you must be able to see the implicit meanings of the book, that is, the implicit meaning and overtones of the book. This requires the reader to think, capture and experience it himself. Books are dead and static, but scientific knowledge is changing with each passing day. We must be able to see the present from the books of the past, and think of the future from the books of the present, so that dead knowledge can be "activated". Book knowledge is a record of people’s level of understanding in a certain era, and therefore bears the imprint of the era. There are mixed flaws, good and wrong. It does not take an expert or an authority to see or point out the fallacies and loopholes in a book, as every thoughtful reader can spot them. Therefore, you must develop the habit of thinking and think while reading, and you will gain something.
4. Recitation does not refer to reciting or memorizing sentence by sentence, but refers to concentrating on keeping the central idea and basic points of the relevant chapters in mind on the basis of understanding. Of course, this is not excluded. Recite some important basic concepts.
5. Review Materials that need to be retained in memory for a long time must be reviewed repeatedly. Pay attention to exploring and developing the content every time you review.
The SQ3R learning method is in principle applicable to all subject areas.
