Classic couplets

Jie Jin was a famous scholar, writer and calligrapher in the early Ming Dynasty, who presided over the compilation of Yongle Dadian. He was smart and studious since he was a child, and he was good at poetry writing at the age of seven. People call him a "prodigy". He is especially good at making couplets and is known as the "master of couplets".

When Jie Jin was seven years old, he and his father went to the Yangtze River to take a bath. His father hung his clothes on an old tree and said the first part:

A thousand-year-old tree is a hanger.

Jie Jin looked at the magnificent river, immediately to the bottom allied:

On one occasion, a big official didn't believe Jie Jin had the talent and decided to invite him. When Jie Jin came to the door, he saw it closed. The family said that the master ordered him to enter from the west gate, but Jie Jin refused, so the official ordered someone to send the first one:

Puppies are ignorant and narrow-minded.

Jie Jin replied without hesitation:

Dapeng spreads his wings and hates the sky.

Officials had to open the door to meet him. He saw Jie Jin dressed in green, taunting way:

The frog in the well is wearing a green coat.

Jie Jin smiled and said, pointing to the big officer's red robe:

The shrimp in the pot is wearing a red robe.

Big official lush vegetation, a hundred flowers blossom, big official go out the first part:

Folium Typhae, Folium Persicae, Folium Vitis Viniferae, and woody herbs;

Jie Jin blurted out the bottom allied:

Plum blossom, sweet-scented osmanthus, rose, spring fragrance and autumn fragrance

Opposite Jie Jin's house is a rich man who is jealous of Jie Jin's learning, but he can't surpass Jie Jin in learning. So he bought 1000 bamboo plants from other places and planted them in front of his house, attracting many scholars to his house every day to talk about learning. The rich man was very happy and said to Jie Jin with his head held high: "I'm a talented person now, and I have a good education. If you are free, come to my house to listen. I don't charge your tuition. " Jie Jin thought the rich man was stupid and ridiculous, so he posted a couplet on his door:

Door to door, home to thousands of books.

When the rich man saw it, he angrily asked the servant to cut all the bamboo. Jie Jin added two words to the couplet, which became:

The door is as short as 1,000 bamboo poles, but parents keep thousands of books.

The rich man stamped his foot at home, thinking that Jie Jin laughed at his ignorance, so he was furious and pulled out all the bamboos. Jie Jin smiled and watched them pull bamboo, so he added two words to the couplet, which became:

The door is short of bamboo, but the home has thousands of books.

A self-reliant genius scholar challenged Jie Jin and shook his head and said:

Cattle run, donkeys run, but horses run,

Chickens and ducks can't fly, but eagles can.

Jie Jin saw the scholar's triumphant appearance and heard his self-proclaimed couplets of "horse" and "eagle". He felt ridiculous and immediately responded:

The reeds on the wall are top-heavy and shallow;

Bamboo shoots in the mountains have a thick mouth and an empty stomach.

This couplet compares this self-righteous guy with no real talent and learning to "reeds on the wall" and "bamboo shoots in the mountains", which makes him speechless.

On one occasion, Jie Jin's father played chess with his friends, who looked up at the sky and sang:

Heaven is a chessboard star, who dares to play?

"Father puzzling over for a long time, Jie Jin was straight stamp, father also don't understand what Jie Jin means. He had to stomp on the ground and say:

There are harps and strings on the ground, which one can play!

Celosia cristata is an annual erect grass flower of Amaranthaceae, which is named after its erect fleshy inflorescence like the crown of a rooster. Once, Jie Jin and Emperor Yongle were playing in the garden, and the emperor suddenly ordered Jie Jin to write poems with cockscomb flowers. Jie Jin thought for a moment and said, The comb of a rooster is dyed with rouge.

As soon as the words fell, the emperor took out the white cockscomb from behind and said, "It's not carmine, it's white." Jie Jin improvised and immediately said, "Why is it so light today?" Because of the greed of the fifth watch, I still wear cream.

Jie Jin answered very well, his language is very special, and his association is wonderful. The emperor was very happy to hear that.

Jie Jin, a gifted scholar in the Ming Dynasty, went to a merchant's house to collect taxes in advance. The merchant's naughty daughter posted couplets in front of the house, thinking, see how your tax collectors came into the house to write couplets:

Idle people are not allowed in, and thieves are not allowed to come.

Jie Jin looked at it and smiled. He asked someone to add three words to the couplet with a pen, and then stood up and went out to see the merchant's daughter. He had to admire the young tax collector's quick thinking and skillfully added the original solution of the couplet as follows:

Idle people are not allowed to become sages, and thieves are not allowed to come.
