The Analects about Confucius's filial piety to parents are as follows:
1. Confucius said: When disciples enter, they will be filial, and when they leave, they will be brothers, be sincere and trustworthy, love others universally, and be kind. If you have enough energy to do it, study literature.
Interpretation: Be filial to your parents at home, respect your brothers when you go out, be cautious and honest in your speech, love others, and get close to virtuous people. If you still have enough energy, you should continue to study poetry, books and articles.
These are the seven important things for us to be honest and learn, and the first one is filial piety.
2. Ziyou asked about filial piety. Confucius said: Today's filial piety refers to being able to raise dogs and horses. How can we be different if we are disrespectful?
Interpretation: Ziyou asked Confucius what filial piety is. Confucius said: Nowadays, those so-called filial piety only provide guarantees for food and supplies, but isn't it the same for the dogs and horses we raise at home? If you don't respect your parents from the bottom of your heart, what's the difference between treating your parents and treating dogs and horses?
This sentence is even more worthy of our reflection in the current environment. Nowadays, young people are no longer with their parents, and even their material support depends more on online shopping. How do we better accompany our parents? It is worth pondering for each of us. How can we achieve the word "respect"?
3. Zixia asked about filial piety, and Confucius said: Sex is difficult. When something happens, the disciple will do his duty; if there is wine and food, the teacher will prepare the meal. Have you ever thought that you are filial?
Interpretation: Zixia also came to ask Confucius what filial piety is. Confucius said: It is most rare for children to treat their parents with a pleasant appearance. If the only thing you can do is to have your children come home to help with things at home, or let your parents eat first and drink first when there is food and wine, is this considered filial piety?
Confucius has always emphasized that the most important thing about filial piety is to respect your parents from the bottom of your heart, not just to help solve problems or give them enough food and clothing. Filial piety can only be expressed externally if it is hidden in the heart.
4. Confucius said: One should not know the age of one's parents, one should be happy and the other should be fearful.
Interpretation: Children must know the age of their parents. On the one hand, we are happy that our parents can live to such a long life, but on the other hand, we are also worried that our parents are getting older.
How many of today’s young people know their parents’ ages or birthdays? When you feel happy for your parents' lives, you should also know that the time you spend with your parents will become less and less, so you should work harder to honor your parents.
