Twenty products of Longmen refer to the inscriptions of twenty statues selected from Longmen Grottoes in the Central and Northern Wei Dynasty, and the title began in the Qing Dynasty. Nineteen of them are in Guyang Cave, and only one is in Cave 660 (Cixiang Kiln) outside Laolong Cave.
Most of the masters of merit in these statues are princes and nobles, senior officials and Taoist monks in the Northern Wei Dynasty. They sang hymns or made statues for Emperor Xiaowen to pray for disaster. Most of their names are recorded in history books. These statues are often related to the historical facts of that year. Therefore, Twenty Chapters of Longmen is not only the essence of northern Wei calligraphy art, but also a representative work of northern Wei calligraphy, and it is also a historical material with research value.
About13km southbound from Luoyang, Henan Province, you arrive at Longmen Grottoes, one of the famous "Four Buddha Grottoes". There are two mountains here, like a door, and the water is flowing. On one side is the fragrant hill where Bai Juyi, a great poet of the Tang Dynasty, was buried. On one side is Longmen Mountain. On Longmen Mountain, there are large and small Buddhist grottoes excavated from the Northern Wei Dynasty to the Northern Song Dynasty. Up to now, there are 1352 caves, 2,345 niches and100000 statues, which are the treasure house of sculpture art in China.
The full name of "The Bull Statue" is "Maitreya Buddha Statue made by Mrs. Mu Liangliang, Taiwei of Changle in November of the 19th year of Taihe". The inscription is dignified and clean, and it is one of the twenty products of Longmen. It was built by Wei Chi (later changed to "Wei" surname), the wife of Qiu Muliang, the king of Changle, for his dead son Niu Mi, and was once called Niu Mi's niche. There is a lotus carved in the middle of the pedestal of the statue, and the left and right hands raise their hands, which is lifelike and lifelike.
