On "Empathy and Synaesthesia"

Transferred epithet and synaesthesia are two commonly used rhetorical devices, which are easy to confuse people. Let me review it here.

Transferred epithet: refers to the conscious use of words describing things A to describe things B, usually also called transferred epithet.

This loneliness grows day by day, like a poisonous snake, haunting my soul. (preface to Lu Xun's "Scream")

Ex.: On a gloomy snowy day, in the boring study, this anxiety is getting stronger and stronger (Lu Xun's blessing)?

Synaesthesia: it is to transfer the feeling of one sense to another and combine the two, usually called empathy.

Example: The moonlight in the pond is uneven, but the light and shadow have a harmonious melody, such as a famous song played by Van Gogh (Zhu Ziqing's Moonlight on the Lotus Pond).

Example: The breeze blows, bringing a faint fragrance, like a faint song from a distant building (Zhu Ziqing's Moonlight on the Lotus Pond)

Sometimes these two figures of speech are used together to make a beautiful sentence.
