1. "Qingming"
Song Dynasty: Huang Tingjian
On the Qingming Festival, the peaches and plums smile, and the wild graves only produce sorrow.
Thunder shook the sky and earth, dragons and snakes stung, and rain fell on the grass and trees in the countryside.
People beg and sacrifice their arrogant concubines, and scholars burn to death unjust marquises.
The wise and foolish know who they are for thousands of years, and their eyes are full of basil and grass.
2. Translation
During the Qingming Festival, spring thunder awakens everything in the world and brings vitality to the earth. The continuous spring rain moistens the grass on the earth, and the peaches and plums are in full bloom. That barren field is a cemetery where the dead are buried. The dead sleep underground, making the living feel sad. In the past, a man from Qi State begged for sacrifices to satisfy his hunger in front of the tomb, but when he returned home, he showed off to his wives and concubines, saying that the rich man invited him to drink. On the contrary, Jie Zitui, a patriot of Jin State, did not covet the wealth of the princes, and would rather be burned to death than go down the mountain. Be an official. For thousands of years, both wise men and fools have existed. Who is right and wrong? As a result, they were all buried in barren graves covered with weeds.
3. Appreciation:
The poet was moved by the scene. The spring rain moistened the earth, bringing infinite vitality to it, and also caused the weeds beside the grave to grow wildly. From this, the poet remembered not to be an official. Jie Zitui lives in seclusion in the mountains and forests. The poet's vibrant scenery reminds him of death, and from death he thinks of the meaning of life. In the end, without exception, people will sleep underground, and the difference in life is that each creates a different meaning of life.
