Ten Famous Bridges in Ancient China

I. Zhao Zhouqiao

Also known as Anji Bridge, located in the south of Zhao County, Hebei Province, was built in the first year of Sui Daye (605) and designed and built by Li Chun. It is the oldest, largest single-span and best-preserved open-shouldered flat-arc stone arch bridge in the world, and is recognized as "the first bridge in the world".

Second, the Jade Belt Bridge

Located on the long dike of Kunming Lake in the Summer Palace in Beijing, it was built during the reign of Qianlong in Qing Dynasty (1736~ 1795), which was the passage for Qianlong to take a boat from Kunming Lake to Yuquan Mountain. The bridge railings are beautifully carved and lifelike, and the arch of the bridge is towering like a jade belt. Clear distance of single hole11.38m, 7.5m high. It is all made of jade and looks gorgeous.

Third, the cross bridge

Located in front of the Notre Dame Temple in Jinci, Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, it was built in the first year of Chongning in the Northern Song Dynasty (1 102). White marble railings and cross-shaped bridges, such as Dapeng Wings, can be used by tourists from south to north and from east to west. Because of its peculiar structure, folklore was built by Lu Ban.

Fourth, Guangji Bridge.

Xiangzi Bridge, commonly known as Xiangzi Bridge, is located outside the East Gate of Chaozhou City, Guangdong Province. It was the main road between Fujian and Guangdong in ancient times. It was once called "Four Ancient Bridges in China" with Zhao Zhouqiao, Luoyang Bridge and Lugou Bridge. It was built in the seventh year of Southern Song Dynasty (1 17 1). It was originally a pontoon bridge, which was connected by pontoons. Later, from the banks of the river to the center of the river, it was built one by one. In the tenth year of Xuande (1435), the bridge was rebuilt and the 12 pavilion was built. After many times of construction, it has formed the current style of 18 shuttles and 24 continents.

Verb (abbreviation for verb) Wu Ting Bridge

Located in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, it is one of the symbols of Slender West Lake, shaped like a lotus, also known as lianhua bridge. Built in the 22nd year of Qianlong (1757), it is modeled after Wulong Pavilion and Seventeen-hole Bridge in Beihai, Beijing. Pavilion and bridge are integrated, and the architectural style is beautiful in South America and North China. The bridge is arched and coiled, which is made up of three kinds of fifteen different coiled holes. It is said that on the night of Mid-Autumn Festival, the reflection of the full moon can be seen at the opening of every bridge.

Sixth, the wind and rain bridge

Also known as Huaqiao, it is a unique bridge of the Dong nationality. Here, it is the general name of a bridge, not a specific one. Yufeng Bridge is popular in Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou and Guangxi. It consists of bridges, towers and pavilions, all of which are wooden structures, forming a corridor-style passage, with multi-storey upturned eaves and gourds on the top. It is named because passers-by can avoid the wind and rain.

Seven, five-tone bridge

It is located on the Shinto of Xiaoling Mausoleum, Shunzhi Emperor of Qing Dongling, Zunhua County, Hebei Province, with 126 calcite railings on both sides. Because they are all made of iron ore with high iron content, they can make tinkling sounds when they are struck, including the five tones of Gong, Shang, Jiao, Qian and Yu in ancient vocal music, hence the name.

Eight, Anping Bridge

Located in the bay between Anhai Town, Jinjiang, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province and Shuitou Town, Nan 'an. It was built in Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty for eight years (1 138) and lasted for 14 years. With a total length of 2,700 meters, this bridge is the longest bridge in China, and it has been the national "champion" for 700 to 800 years. The powerful couplet of "the first bridge in the world" engraved on the pavilion column in the heart of the bridge summarizes its greatest characteristics. There are five "rest pavilions" on the bridge for pedestrians to rest, and guardrails on both sides protect pedestrians' safety.

9. Luding Tiesuo Bridge

Located on the Dadu River in Luding County, Sichuan Province, it was built in the 45th year of Qing Emperor Kangxi (1706). Kangxi personally wrote "Luding Bridge" and erected a monument at the bridge head. Bridge length 103m, 13 are fixed in the wells of abutment on both sides by chains, 9 by bottom chains and 4 by handrails. Since the Qing Dynasty, this bridge has been the main channel and military hub for Sichuan to enter Tibet. The story of the Red Army's Long March passing through here and flying over Luding Bridge made this bridge famous at home and abroad.

Lugou bridge

Yongding Bridge, also known as Yongding Bridge, is located on Yongding River in Fengtai District, Beijing. It is the largest multi-culvert circular arch bridge in ancient China. Founded in the 29th year of Jin Dading (1 189), it was rebuilt twice in Ming and Qing Dynasties. Because Kyle Poirot described this bridge in detail in his travel notes, Lugou Bridge is called Kyle Poirot Bridge in Europe. Due to the outbreak of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, this ancient bridge has added new meaning.

Lugou Bridge is 266.5 meters long. There are 50 1 large and small stone lions on the stigma of the guardrail, and their expressions are different and lifelike. There are many little lions, either crawling on the lion's back or snuggling under the lioness's knees, with different postures and countless numbers. There is a folk saying that "there are countless stone lions in Lugou Bridge".
