The five-character quatrain is one of the Chinese poetry genres. It refers to a short poem with five characters and four sentences that conforms to the standard of rhythmic poetry. It originated from the Yuefu poems of the Han Dynasty and was deeply influenced by the folk songs of the Six Dynasties.
