"Two orioles sing green willows, and egrets cover the sky."
My window framed the snow-covered western hills. My door often says "goodbye" to ships sailing eastward.
Two orioles are singing among the green willows, and a line of egrets is flying straight into the blue sky. Sitting by the window, you can see the Millennium Snow in Xiling, and the Wan Li ship from Soochow is moored at the door.

In the second year of Su Zonggan Yuan, Du Fu abandoned his official position and went to live in Chengdu Caotang.
One day, several uninvited guests went to Du Fu's house to make friends with Shi. Du Fu really couldn't think of a better meal to entertain his guests. Mrs. Du was overwhelmed with anxiety. Just when she was puzzled, Du Fu found an onion, two eggs and a small amount of oil and salt in the kitchen. She immediately got the treasure and turned her troubles into happiness. After whispering a few words to his wife with a smile, he invited the guests to sit down and chat.
After a while, Mrs. Du served three dishes and one soup. The first course is onion leaves and two fried egg yolks; The second bowl of chopped green onion is fried, and tender green onion leaves are dotted on the edge of the plate; The third bowl is steamed egg white, fluffy as a mountain; Finally, there is a big bowl of soup with some white eggshells floating on it.
Du Fu shook his fist and said to the guests, "It's a great honor for you to come to my humble abode. We specially prepared a poem banquet to show our hearts."
Just as the guests were wondering, Du Fu picked up chopsticks and pointed to the first course, saying it was called "two orioles singing green willows". Pointing to the second course, he said, this is "a line of egrets going up to the sky"; Then pointed to the third bowl of vegetables and said that it was "the window of Xiling contains snow"; Finally, pointing to the bowl of soup, he said, this is the "Wan Li ship with a door moored in Wu Dong".
At this time, the guests suddenly realized and applauded. In this way, this seven-character quatrain was formed and became the eternal swan song handed down from generation to generation.

Creation background
This poem was written in the spring of 764, the second year of Guangde, Tang Daizong. In the first year of Baoying, Tang Suzong (762), Chengdu Yin entered the DPRK, and turmoil occurred in Shu. Du Fu once avoided Zizhou (treating Santai in Sichuan). In the second year, the Anshi Rebellion was put down. A year later, Yanwu returned to Chengdu and went to Shu again.
Du Fu learned the news of this old friend and followed him back to Chengdu Caotang. At this time, Du Fu's mood was particularly comfortable. Faced with a vibrant scene, he couldn't help writing this impromptu poem.
Poetry appreciation
This poem describes the scene of early spring. Four poems describe four scenes, separated into four pictures, which together form a vivid and beautiful landscape painting.
The first sentence writes that there are a pair of orioles singing on the new green willow branches around the thatched cottage, which is a happy scene, full of vitality and colorful, forming a fresh and beautiful artistic conception with festive meaning.
Egrets in the blue sky are flying freely. In Wan Li, the sky is clear, and the egrets are brightly colored against the "blue sky". The four bright colors of "yellow", "green", "white" and "blue" are used one after another in the two sentences, weaving a beautiful picture.
The third sentence is written in the window of Xishan overlooking the snow ridge. The snow on the ridge doesn't melt all the year round, so "Thousand Autumn Snow" is piled up. The word "containing" means that the scene seems to be a picture embedded in a window frame.
From the outside, you can see ships moored on the river bank. The word "Wan Li Ship" is meaningful, because years of war, land and water traffic was blocked by the war, and ships could not sail smoothly. Only when the war subsided and the traffic resumed can we see the ships from Soochow. Wan Li Ship is relatively as wide as a word and as long as a word.
The poet is in the thatched cottage, thinking for thousands of years, seeing through Wan Li and being broad-minded. The beginning of this poem shows the spring scenery of the thatched cottage, and the poet's mood is Tao Ran. However, with the wandering of sight and the change of scenery, the appearance of river boats touched his homesickness. The whole poem is exquisite, colorful, dynamic and static, with both sound and shape. Four poems now constitute a magnificent landscape painting of Wan Li.
