By briefly describing the origin of the Dragon Boat Festival, it highlights the suppression by feudal society on the outspoken ministers of coachable, and satirizes the feudal attention to the ruling class.
Original text:
The festival is divided into the Dragon Boat Festival, and it is rumored to be Qu Yuan throughout the ages.
It's funny that the Chu River is so empty that it can't be washed away.
Vernacular translation:
I don't know who initiated the earliest Dragon Boat Festival, and the rumor is to commemorate Qu Yuan. Just laugh at the empty flow of rivers in the country, and the rough waves can't wash away the grievances of the ministers.
This article is from the extended data of Dragon Boat Festival written by Wen Xiu in Tang Dynasty.
Writing background:
Dragon Boat Festival. According to legend, this day was the day when Qu Yuan, the first great man in China, committed suicide by throwing himself into the river. Later generations injured him and died unjustly, so he threw zongzi into the river for sacrifice and rowed boats to save him, which led to the custom of solar eclipse and dragon boat race. The author's quatrain raises a thought-provoking question: despite all kinds of praises and sacrifices by later generations, tragedies like Qu Yuan's sinking into the river have happened after all, and such grievances cannot be simply washed away. This poem is far-reaching, concise and powerful.
Wen Xiu, a poet and monk in Jiangnan. Zhaozong lived in Chang 'an and dedicated himself to the article. With Zheng Gu and Qi Ji as poetry friends. I have traveled to South Wutai.
