Bodhi has no trees! No mirrors! There is nothing in the world of mortals! Where there is dust!

Bodhi has no trees,

The mirror is not a stage,

There's nothing,

Where is the dust?

This is a four-sentence poem by Huineng, the sixth ancestor.

This originated from Shen Xiu and Huineng.

Shen Xiu said, "As a bodhi tree, my heart is like a mirror. Always wipe, don't get dust. "

Huineng said, "Bodhi has no trees, and the mirror is not a stage. Nothing, where is the dust? "

Indeed, it is really difficult to understand these two sons, and even a correct understanding is not easy.

Difficult to understand ...

Being a bodhi tree is like a mirror. Do not rub regularly, so as not to make dust.

The body of all beings is the tree of enlightened wisdom,

The heart of all beings is like a bright stage mirror.

Keep brushing,

Don't let it be polluted by dirt, which blocks the nature of light.

Bodhi has no trees, and the mirror is not a stage. There is nothing, so where is the dust?

Bodhi has no trees,

A bright mirror is not a stage.

Nothing, nothing,

What dust will catch it there?

The heart is clean, and the dust is the heart. If people have no intention of cleaning up, they will die.

People think that a thing is delicious, but in fact, smell accounts for a greater proportion than taste.

Therefore, a creature with a keen sense of smell like a dog is far happier than us in diet.

Is this the right idea? .. if it's wrong .. what?

In fact, the dust is outside, the heart is inside, and the heart is clean and dust-free.

Dust inside, heart outside, often stripped, dust-free and unintentional;

There is dust in the heart, and dust is the heart.

He has no dust, no dust and no intention?

The obstacle of the heart to everything in the world is the dust in the heart.

When people are sober and see sex. You know, things will change. Everything in the world is fake. It will eventually be destroyed.

And then live in the heart instead of living in the phase. Did not insist. No problem. It is unintentional and dust-free.

As Huineng said, the benevolent is moved.

Buddhists pay attention to everything and pursue spiritual cultivation.

Bodhisattva Bodhi has no tree word source.

1, found in the altar sutra written by Dunhuang. As for the origin of this poem, there is a clear record in the fourth to eighth sections of the Tanjing: Hongren, the fifth ancestor, "called all his disciples one day" and asked everyone to "write a poem". He also said, "If you get the gist", that is, "Fu Yi is as good as the law, which is an important thing for six generations." Shen Xiu, the last disciple of Hong Ren, wrote a poem in front of the door: "I am a bodhi tree, and my heart is like a mirror platform. Wipe it frequently to make it dust-free. " When Hong Ren learned of this, he "summoned the abbot" and said that "if you do this, you won't be in front of you" and "if you find the supreme bodhi, you won't be there", so he asked him to "write another poem". And "it's impossible to show off for a few days." Huineng's poems are aimed at the beautiful "spiced tree". According to the altar sutra, Huineng couldn't read, so she first "asked someone to read" the beautiful melody, and then wrote this song "asked a scholar to write it at the Western Wall".

This poem, like that beautiful one, is different in principle in practice methods. Shen Xiu's song "No Love" made him lose the qualification of being a red man, but he became the founder of Beizong. Because Shen Xiu emphasized "being always clean", later generations called it "gradual revision school". Huineng's poetry is a complete denial of beauty, that is, subjective idealism is a complete denial of objective idealism, which directly grasps the key to "seeing nature as a Buddha" and is called "Epiphany School".

Huineng pointed out in the 20th section of the Tanjing: "Human nature is self-purification, and all laws are self-nature. To think of all evil things is to do evil; Think about all good deeds and cultivate them. " This is the basis of Huineng's epiphany theory. In his view, there is no insurmountable gap between "fools" and "wise men", "good people" and "wicked people", and between them and "Buddha". From "infatuation" to "enlightenment", it is only between one thought. This thought of "putting down the butcher's knife and becoming a Buddha on the spot" not only played a great role in the evolution of Buddhism in China, but also had a great influence on China's philosophical theory.

2, Zen story-Bodhi without trees

Hui Neng is lonely and hard, and sells firewood in the city for a living. And when I heard a guest recite the Diamond Sutra, I realized something, so I went to Wuzu to learn Buddhism.

One day, Wuzu called all his disciples: "I tell you, life and death are important things in the world. You just want to be in the sky all day long, and you don't want to find out the pain of life and death. If you are fascinated by yourself, how can you save happiness? " Look at your own wisdom, take it from your inner nature and make a poem for me. If you get the general idea, you are the sixth generation ancestor. "

They waited for Meixiu, who secretly wrote a book on the wall:

"You are a bodhi tree, and your heart is like a mirror. Always wipe, don't get dust. "

The Five Ancestors ordered the master to make incense and recite this poem. But I told Shen Xiu myself, "You've never seen your nature, but you only went outside and didn't go in. Such an opinion is beyond bodhi and impossible to get. "

Huineng can't read, but when he smells this song, he knows that he has never seen his nature. The parties also wrote a letter saying:

"Bodhi has no trees, and the mirror is not Taiwan. There is nothing in the original, where is the dust? "

Everyone was surprised. Five ancestors shine shoes: "I have never seen sex."

The next day, Zu sneaked into the room, hit the room three times with his cane and left. Huineng entered the room three times, and the five ancestors covered it with robes, so it was called the Diamond Sutra. To "have no place to live, but have a heart", Huineng realizes that everything can be done without being divorced from self.

So the words of the ancestors: "When it is self-nature, this is self-purity; What self-nature period, this is not birth and death; When is self-nature, it is self-sufficiency; The self-nature of what period has never wavered; When you are self-sufficient, you can have all kinds of laws. "

Third, people don't know the law, so they preach the law and the mantle.

"Bodhi has no trees": Bodhi is a kind of consciousness, so what trees are there? If there is a tree, Bodhi will succeed, and persevere. Bodhi had nothing. You said you realized it, but what does it look like? Is it cyan? Yellow? Red? White? Tell me, see if it's invisible.

"Mirror is not a platform": You said that your heart is like a mirror platform, but there is no platform at all. With a platform, you will be persistent. As the saying goes, "You should have nothing to live in, but your heart will grow". Why is there a platform?

"There was nothing": there was nothing, no appearance, no picture, no form, so there was nothing.

"Where does the dust come from?" Since there is nothing, where does the dust come from? There is no place to live.

Attachment: the heart is neither born nor extinguished, but it seems to be extinguished when it meets the situation. The reason why the heart has obstacles and dust is only because the heart has a place on the surface of everything in the world. Old friends will have troubles, which will lead to insatiable greed, inability to see their hearts clearly, and no real freedom. You know, everything in the world will eventually be destroyed. Therefore, it is illusory, not eternal, and we should not cherish it with too much blood. Everything is for my use, not mine. A heart with nothing to live in and nothing to hinder is unintentional and dust-free.

This ode mainly comes from' being born with no cover, but being born with a heart', without all persistence, which is what the Buddha said:' All living beings have the wisdom and virtue of the Tathagata, but it cannot be proved by delusion and persistence.' This place teaches people not to be persistent. What do you do with it? If you cling to it, won't you die in the future? What will you cling to when you die?

Bodhi has no trees, and the mirror is not a stage.

Buddha's nature is often pure, where there is dust!

Bodhisattva bodhi has no tree note.

Bodhisattva: "Bodhi", transliterated in Sanskrit, literally translated as "sense" or "wisdom", and the old translation is also called "Tao". Refers to the understanding of Buddhist teachings or the ideal path of Buddhism. The songs and poems sung by monks are called songs. Bodhi songs are songs that interpret Buddhist teachings.

② Tree: This refers to the Bodhi tree, which is translated as "Awakening Tree" or "Tao Tree". According to legend, Sakyamuni, the ancestor of Buddhism, got Bodhi and realized Tao under this tree, hence the name Bodhi Tree. But what is the real name of this tree? There are many different versions. According to legend, during the Southern Liang Dynasty, the monk Zhi Yao transplanted this tree from Tianzhu to China. "Leizhou County Records" records: "Bodhi fruit is white, sweet and ripe in May. Qiongshan County, Hainan calls the fruit of this tree King Kong Zi. This fruit can be used as a rosary. Buddhists often burn incense, scatter flowers and salute around trees. Today, there is a bodhi tree on the left and right sides of Nanhua Temple in Qujiang County, Guangdong Province.

(3) Mirrors: According to the second part of Zi Zhi Ji, "In meditation, there are many mirrors to help the mind." It is usually used to describe the intermediary between Buddha and all beings. Taiwan Province: It refers to the place where the mirror is placed, which can be regarded as an objective existence.

Spiegel is the abbreviation of bright and clean mirror. This mirror can hold everything. Therefore, it is a mirror. According to the truth, it is pure. According to custom, this is clear. A clear truth is like a clear false display. All the flaws are real. The mirror shows a round body. Three wise men get their harvest in one heart. Speak clearly and mirror clearly. [1] stage: refers to the mirror image of the object.

④ Buddha nature: it is a noun translated from Sanskrit and Chinese, which translates into awareness and Tathagata, sometimes called nirvana or truth, and is also a synonym for Tathagata. Originally, it refers to the nature of Buddha, and the possibility of developing into a Buddha is the goal and ideal realm pursued by Buddhists to help practice. On this issue, Hinayana and Mahayana have different views, which has caused a long-term debate. China talked about Buddhism in the Northern and Southern Dynasties, and various sects in Sui and Tang Dynasties also attached importance to it. Tiantai Sect put forward five kinds of Buddha natures, and Faxiang Sect attributed them to two kinds of Buddha natures, while Huayan Sect even distinguished the Buddha natures of all beings from those of non-beings. Cleanliness: Buddhist term, staying away from evil deeds and chaos, is called cleanliness.

⑤ Dust: Buddhist term, referring to all worldly affairs. According to the monk's point of view, the affairs in the world are not clean, so they are called dust affairs.

3. The Legend of Dragon Ridge

The author of the story "The Legend of the Dragon Ridge"-Bitter Mark

God bird didn't appear, but he met an old monk who was over the age of 70. He was kind-hearted and alert, dressed in brown clothes, with a bag on his shoulder and sandals on his feet, and walked as lightly as a swallow. Between the host and the guest, the old monk spoke first. "Amitabha, can you have a look at the donor's rosary?"

"I don't understand Buddhism. I strung it myself just to ward off evil spirits. "

"The Buddha knows you, and the rosary worn by the benefactor is deja vu. Legend has it that it grows on a rare tree. I have searched all over the world for such a bodhi, but I have not found it, but I met it in Longshan. This is a rare opportunity. Can you tell me what kind of tree I am? "

"This tree is all over the mountain, which is the kind of thorn fruit." Lou casually pointed to the nearest tree.

"I have tasted it, and the shape and texture are wrong. Please help me choose some. "

"I can't find this either."

"Dare to ask which tree the donor comes from?"

"It's a long story ..." Lu will tell the story of how to meet the phoenix and taste the fruit. Then he took off the beads and handed them to the old monk.

The old monk took the string of beads, studied it carefully, put it on the plate conveniently, and sighed, "Amitabha, since I worshipped the king, I finally realized Buddhism." Buddha lives in Buddha's land, Buddha lives in Buddha's land, and the heart is born of living without a fixed place. This is a magical instrument, a real oriental bodhi rosary. "

"The grass people don't understand, but I still hope to show it."

The old monk returned the rosary, took off his cloth bag, sat down on the ground and said, "Please sit down, benefactor. I thought that the fruit of wisdom must grow on the tree of wisdom, and bodhi must have a bodhi tree. I never realized it. I saw this thorn in Longshan, and I heard that you met the Phoenix, and you tasted the fruit like enlightenment. The source of Bodhi Mo Wen, wisdom lies in epiphany. "

"Master means bodhi without trees, and inferior people also have wisdom. Excuse me, master, what does that bird mean by happiness and self-energy? "

Hearing this, the old monk was surprised by this extraordinary speech! Then he said, "Well, I can only say that it is Zen. The benefactor is thorough, enlightened, measured and knowledgeable. Those who can recognize it can only understand it, measure themselves and know themselves. "

"The bird of God means ... to let the heart enter the Buddhist country." [2]
