The original text and appreciation of "I miss my Shandong brothers on vacation in the mountains"

Wang Wei

I am a lonely stranger in a strange land, and I miss my family more often during the holidays.

When I think of my brothers' bodies climbing high, I will feel a little regret for not being able to reach me.

Wang Wei is famous for his landscape poems, but this poem, written in his early years, has strongly infected readers with its simple and meaningful lyric style and has become a masterpiece that has been praised throughout the ages.

This poem was written when the poet left home for Chang 'an at the age of seventeen. Wang Wei was born in Qi, Taiyuan, and his father moved to Pu (now Yongji, Shanxi) on the east bank of the Yellow River. Pu is in the east of Huashan, so it is called Shandong. The ninth day of the ninth lunar month is the traditional Double Ninth Festival. As early as the Han dynasty, the custom of climbing mountains, inserting dogwood, enjoying chrysanthemums and drinking chrysanthemum wine was formed. "Qi Ren Yue Ling" says: "On the day of the Double Ninth Festival, you must climb high and overlook, enjoy a feast with cakes and wine to celebrate your autumn ambitions. Wine must be made of dogwood and chamomile before drinking. " According to the story of local customs, "the gathering on the Double Ninth Festival, climbing mountains and drinking, is called Gordon meeting, also known as dogwood meeting." The origin of this custom is said to be that Huanjing in the Eastern Han Dynasty followed the teachings of Fei Changfang, a fairy teacher, and led the whole family to climb mountains, enjoy dogwood and drink chrysanthemum wine on September 9 to avoid disaster. Therefore, the ancients called Cornus officinalis "evil-avoiding Weng" and Chrysanthemum "longevity-prolonging guest". This custom was more popular in the peaceful and prosperous times of the Tang Dynasty, but it meant more pleasure than avoiding disaster.

When the poet was young, he left his parents and brothers at home and went west to Chang 'an for the first time. Here, in a strange place, inevitably lurks an unforgettable loneliness, which is the feeling revealed in the first sentence of the poem. One "independence" and two "differences" naturally and profoundly reveal this emotion in my heart. The young poet always misses his warm family and lovely relatives. The festival is coming, and the inseparable situation reminds him of family reunion. This kind of emotion is highly summarized and naturally expressed by the poet with the phrase "I miss my relatives twice during the festive season". This moment is not only the poet's own voice, but also his deep homesickness; It also conveys the world situation and shows the Chinese people's inherent mentality of attaching importance to family ethics. This poem is fluent, simple and clear, so once sung, it will spread like wildfire and become a famous sentence that has been passed down through the ages.

The first sentence of the poem is written as "a guest" and the second sentence is written as "homesickness", both of which are simple and natural direct lyricism; After two sentences, the pen turned to blank writing. The poet flies the wings of imagination and crosses the space. Assuming the Double Ninth Festival, brothers who are far away from home will climb mountains as in previous years and look forward to the future. They will also wear dogwood and drink chrysanthemum wine according to traditional customs, and they will also think of their brothers who are far away from home. This kind of imagination is actually a reflection of the poet's own yearning for his brother and family happiness. The whole poem is full of truth, reality and emptiness, and the four ups and downs are just right, which strengthens the expression of deep affection and appears endless charm.

I used to miss my relatives, but later my brother missed me.

The title is "Memories of Brothers in Jiuri Mountain in September", but the poem begins with missing relatives and covers the place where brothers come from. So brother, you must have parents first. ..... See what he said about how brothers change pens: not that I miss my brothers, but that my brothers miss me. It's not necessarily true that brothers in the mountains, but I believe it is inevitable with my filial piety. (Xu Zeng's Three Hundred Tang Poems, Volume 11)

Talking while quarreling can be really wonderful, but it can't be so natural if it is searched. ([Qing] Comment on Wu's Zheng Sheng of Tang Poetry)

It is an ordinary person who lingers when his feelings are revealed. ([Qing] Song Zongyuan's Notes on Wang Shiyuan's Tang Poems)

Du Shaoling's "Looking Back at My Brother, Sleeping in the Day" and Bai Letian's "Five Hearts, Same Disease and Same Wish" are the works of this group. This poem is particularly well-known, true and touching, and does not move a word. (Yu Biyun's "Poetry")
