This poem was written in the third year of Shao Xi in Song Guangzong (1 192), and Lu You was 68 years old. It has been four years since he came home. But the quiet country life can't calm the old man's heart. The Central Plains was occupied by nomads from the Golden Army. The poet yearns for the great rivers and mountains of the Central Plains and misses the people of the Central Plains, hoping that the Song Dynasty can recover the Central Plains as soon as possible and realize reunification. It was early autumn and the heat was still high. The hot weather and the boiling in his heart made him unable to sleep peacefully. At dawn, he stepped out of the hedge door to cool off and wrote these two poems.
