What does Yichang mean when translating ancient poems?

Yichang is located in the transition zone from Wuling Mountains and Qinba Mountains in western Hubei to Jianghan Plain. In ancient times, it was called Yiling. The so-called "water is here, mountains are here, and tombs are here" is translated into vernacular: water begins to flatten here and mountains become lower here. It was not until the Qing Dynasty that it was renamed Yichang, meaning "suitable for prosperity". Yichang is steep in the west and flat and low in the east, which straddles the dividing line between the second and third steps of China.

Yichang is a famous historical and cultural city with a history of more than 2,000 years. Zigui County, Yichang City is the hometown of Qu Yuan, a great patriotic poet of Chu State during the Warring States Period. Qu Yuan was born here in 340 BC. Xingshan County, Yichang City is the hometown of Wang Zhaojun, one of the four beauties in ancient China. The story of Zhaojun's departure from the fortress has been passed down through the ages. Yidu City, under the jurisdiction of Yichang City, is the birthplace of Mr. Yang Shoujing, who is known as the "first scholar in the late Qing Dynasty".
