Why is honeysuckle called honeysuckle?

The legend of honeysuckle

Legend has it that a long time ago, in a remote village, there lived a hardworking and kind couple. The young couple gave birth to twin girls and gave them nice names, namely "Golden Flower" and "Silver Flower". Jinhua Yin Hua thrived under the care of her parents and soon became a girl as beautiful as flowers and jade. When the farm is busy, they help their parents in the fields. In their spare time, they embroider needles, weave and spin with their mothers, teach themselves medical books and go to the mountains to collect medicines. Therefore, they won the appreciation of their parents and villagers.

One early summer, an unknown strange disease prevailed in the village. Without exception, the patient has fever, high fever continues, and erythema or papules appear all over the body; Shortly after his illness, he was bedridden, unconscious and died immediately. Village doctors are helpless, and doctors from other places dare not enter, so the whole village has to wait for death. At this critical juncture, Jinhua Yin Hua stepped forward and took the initiative to seek medical advice for the villagers. At this time, their parents also unfortunately suffered from this disease. The villagers kindly advised them not to go, lest they seek medical advice and die for their parents. Both sisters' faces are sad. At this time, the parents said earnestly: "Go! Good boy! You should find a famous doctor or a good medicine as soon as possible, or don't come back to see us! " With tears in their eyes, Jinhua and Yinhua immediately packed their bags and prepared to leave. The villagers were moved to tears and asked them to see a doctor. Parents are taken care of by villagers in turn, so don't worry.

The two sisters traveled all over Qian Shan, waded through countless rapids and rapids, and almost traveled all over China, visiting famous doctors in the Central Plains, but these famous doctors either knew nothing about the disease or were unwilling to go because of the long journey. One day, two sisters passed by Huashan and went to spend the night in an ancient temple on the mountain. An old monk in the yard asked them why they were so dusty and reluctant. The two sisters told each other frankly. The old monk was so sad that he immediately pointed to them from a distance outside the window and said, "There is a high mountain 99 miles away, and there is a thatched hut at the foot of the mountain where an old doctor lives." Might as well ask. The two sisters were very happy to hear the news and went there at once. They arrived less than an hour after the 99-mile journey, only to find the villagers waiting for a doctor outside the hut. When I entered the hut, I saw an old man with white hair and wise face, watching, smelling, asking and caring for a dying old farmer-this must be an old doctor. The sisters came forward to explain why. The old doctor said thoughtfully, "Your family is suffering from heat poisoning ..." Then he pointed to a room full of farmers waiting to see a doctor and said to the nuns, "There is a plague here, too. I can't live without it. However, I can teach you a way, that is, collect a kind of herb called honeysuckle, which blooms in early summer and is born in the axils of leaves in pairs. White first, then yellow, yellow and white set each other off, and winter does not fall. It can cure your family's diseases. "The old doctor further introduced:" The stem of this medicine winds around the tree for a few meters and winds to the left; "The middle is hollow, multi-branched and brown. Its petals are rod-shaped, 2 to 3 minutes long and 1 to 3 minutes wide; Color yellow and white, capillary; Occasionally ovate leaflike bracts; Calyx tube glabrous, sepals hairy; Corolla tubular, divided above, lobes nearly equal to corolla tube; There are five stamens, and the ovary is in the lower position. Smell the fragrance and taste bitter. " Hearing this, the two sisters immediately thanked the old doctor for collecting it everywhere, and soon returned with a full load.

Due to overwork, the two sisters fell ill when they returned to their hometown. Nevertheless, the two sisters personally used the collected herbs to make soup for the villagers to take. The villagers recovered quickly after taking the medicine. And they also recovered quickly under the care of their parents and villagers. To commemorate the achievements of the two sisters, the villagers called this unknown herb "Golden Flower Yin Hua". Later, people gradually called "golden flowers and silver flowers" "honeysuckle".

Shortly thereafter, Shennong, a medical sage, heard about this visit and brought "honeysuckle" back to study. Studies have shown that honeysuckle is sweet and cold in nature, enters the lung, stomach and large intestine meridian, and has the effects of clearing away heat and toxic materials, cooling blood and stopping dysentery. Therefore, Shennong has widely used "honeysuckle" in the treatment of heat toxicity, breast abscess, lung abscess, intestinal carbuncle, carbuncle, erysipelas and other diseases, and it has been recorded in Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica and has been passed down to this day.
