Jurong is located in the southwest of Jiangsu Province, on the south bank of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, adjacent to Zhenjiang in the east and Nanjing in the west, 200 kilometers away from Shanghai, and in the economic radiation zone of Shanghai. The area is surrounded by mountains and rivers. It is the gateway to the southeast of Nanjing. Jurong is one of the first published coastal areas open to the outside world and one of the top 100 counties with comprehensive economic strength in China.
With a total area of 1378 square kilometer and a population of about 600,000, the city has jurisdiction over 8 towns, 3 streets (Huangmei Street, Huayang Street and Chongming Street) and 3 management committees (Development Zone Management Committee, Maoshan Management Committee and Chishan Lake Management Committee). These eight towns are Xiashu Town, Baohua Town, Border Town, Baitu Town, Guo Zhuang Town, Houbai Town, Tianwang Town and Maoshan Town.
Jurong natural resources
Jurong has a forest area of 400,000 mu and a timber accumulation of 800,000 cubic meters. Timber forests include Cunninghamia lanceolata, pine, Tilia amurensis, etc. There are more than 270 kinds of economic forests such as tung tree, chestnut, plum, grape, persimmon and peach. It is a key city of forestry production in Jiangsu Province.
The vegetation in Baohua Mountain is well preserved (the nature reserve covers an area of 2,080 mu, and it is said that there are "inexhaustible Tianning rice and inexhaustible Huashan firewood"), and there are 529 species belonging to 352 genera in 124 families, especially Magnolia grandiflora. There are more than 750 kinds of Chinese herbal medicines in Maoshan Mountain, and there are more than 380 kinds in Compendium of Materia Medica alone, such as Atractylodes lancea, Polygonatum sibiricum and colorful seedlings.
There are more than 20 kinds of proven mineral deposits in Jurong. Metal minerals mainly include molybdenum, copper, gold, silver, iron, aluminum, zinc, etc. Non-metallic minerals mainly include sulfur, phosphorus, marble, limestone, bentonite, andalusite, etc. The deposits are widely distributed, with large reserves and easy exploitation, with the characteristics of less investment and quick results.
Among them, bentonite ore has a high grade, with a reserve of 65.438+0.5 billion tons, ranking the second largest reserve area in China. The reserve of high-quality limestone is 2 billion tons, and the calcium content is as high as 55%. In addition, the reserves of yellow sand and red sand are also considerable.
