Comparing Deng Kuaige's couplet "Fallen Leaves Return to Roots" with Du Fu's "Climbing to the Top and Looking Far", the Yangtze River is endless.

Deng Kuaige is a seven-character poem written by Huang Tingjian, a poet in the Northern Song Dynasty, and Gao Deng written by Du Fu is a five-character poem. Although they all describe the theme of climbing high and looking far, their couplets are somewhat different in describing scenery and expressing artistic conception.

The couplet of Huang Shi's poem is "the mountains in front are vast, the river is clear and the moon is clear", and the couplet of Du Shi's poem is "fallen leaves are like waterfalls, but I think the long river is always rolling".

The antithetical couplets in Huang's poems, through the two images of "Qian Shan falling from the wood" and "Tongchengjiang", show the sight of climbing high and looking far. Among them, The Tree Falls Qian Shan describes the ups and downs of mountain peaks and towering trees, giving people a lofty feeling, while Chengjiang Road describes the crystal clear water, in which the moon is reflected, giving people a clear feeling. The artistic conception of this couplet is relatively open, giving people a fresh and lively feeling.

On the other hand, the couplets in Du Fu's poems show the prospect of climbing high and looking far through the images of "fallen leaves are like waterfall foam" and "I see the long river always rolling forward". Among them, "leaves fall like the waves of a waterfall" describes the fallen leaves of trees, giving people a bleak feeling, while "when I look at the long river, it always rolls forward" describes the endless running of the river, giving people a sense of movement. The artistic conception of this couplet is solemn and gloomy, giving people an ethereal and distant feeling.

Generally speaking, Huang's and Du Fu's couplets are all about climbing high and looking far, but their description methods and artistic conception are slightly different. Huang's couplets show a lofty scene, while Du's couplets show a bleak and surging scene.
