According to Huizhou Fuzhi, Huimo was founded in the late Tang Dynasty. In the Ming Dynasty, Huimo was exported to some countries in Southeast Asia. During the reign of Kangxi in Qing Dynasty, Huizhou formed four famous Mohist townships, namely, Hu Kaiwen, Cao Sugong, Wang Jinsheng and Wang Jiean. After Cao Sugong moved to Shanghai, some remaining Mozhuang declined and closed down, while Hu Kaiwen Mozhuang flourished, occupying the Huizhou ink market with high quality and low price, and taking the lead in Huizhou ink industry. Huimo, produced in Cang Shi Pei, Hu Kaiwen, was chosen as a "tribute" by the Qing Dynasty and paid tribute to the imperial court every year. Since then, Huimo has gained a higher reputation.
