Herman? Hessen
I must write this passage down in my notes. When I first read this passage in the glass ball game, I strengthened this idea, although I also read more classic words written by this great poet and writer that touched my heart more directly, which benefited me a lot.
It is not so much reading Hesse's works as spiritual baptism, or experiencing multiple lives-the plural form of literary works-which is also one of the important meanings of literary works. In these months, I have mentioned my respect and love for this writer to many friends many times. I have always been a slow reader, but Hesse's works have freed me from this boredom in a sense, so I chose to write this reading note. At the same time,
Good doer
"I know there are hundreds of pieces in my pocket, and I am shocked to foresee the significance of this game. I want to start this game again, taste its pain again, tremble for its absurdity again, and go to my inner hell again and again. "
? -"Wolf of the Wild"
? "Loneliness" and "seclusion" are almost two essential elements in Hesse's works that I have seen. They run through Hesse's life's works, but these two elements are not unique to Hesse. To some extent, these elements are the struggle between spirit and body, the embodiment of the conflict between spiritual purity and depravity, and a bipolar conflict. Many novels have mentioned this kind of conflict. The conflict between soul and body is almost the same as love, and I like Hesse's works better because of his brightness, which distinguishes him from some "loners" and eventually leads to self-destruction. Hesse has suffered from mental trauma. After fighting with the devil again and again, he wrote: "If you don't know monsters and fight with them for a long time, you won't have a noble and respectable life." After two world wars, Hesse lived to be 85. With the extraordinary magic power created by his literary accomplishment, talent, rich experience and thoughts, he peeled off readers' hearts layer by layer by means of communication, pushed me into hell, and then helped me in times of crisis, rescued me from the crisis of self-creation, and finally made me reach a settlement with secular hell. Some readers say that Hesse's works are too hard. I just think that the awakening and "enlightenment" after this violent impact is the most real, happy and thorough. When I realized that my feelings were consistent with Hesse's original intention, I was undoubtedly extremely happy, which is why the words at the beginning of the article must exist here. At the same time, this is also the most essential and greatest goodness of a writer who has experienced inner suffering.
"I really want to be a patriot, but first of all, it is a person. If you can't have both, then I will always choose one person. "
? Speaking of Hesse's "goodness", we have to mention his humanitarianism and anti-war thought. Hesse provided some support to prisoners of war or exiled scholars during the two world wars. Hesse is not a hermit who turns a deaf ear to things outside the window. On the contrary, he wrote many anti-war articles during World War II, which blatantly violated the political views of the German authorities. I have thought about the relationship between "state" and "people" here, but its essence must be viewed in combination with history. I think that Hesse's choice of "people" was not a sign of cowardice and selfishness in Germany at that time. On the contrary, it must be a kind of humanitarian kindness.
A wise man
Hesse is a poet, writer, painter, and a researcher of music and history. Art is always connected. Music is an essential element in Hesse's works. Hesse quoted the chapters about music in Lv Chunqiu in The Glass Ball Game to express his attitude towards music. I'd like to write a separate paragraph for Hesse and China culture. Since it has been mentioned, I'll write it down. Hesse's works are unique in my eyes. He is different from ordinary western literature. I think the biggest reason is that Hesse is deeply influenced by oriental culture, among which he likes China culture best, although he has never been to China. Hesse's research on China's traditional culture and thoughts, similar to Confucianism and Taoism, must be better than many people in China today, including me. In his time, Hesse regarded China culture as a good way to save the German spiritual crisis, which I think is extremely special. Cleverly, perhaps because of the profound influence of China culture, Hesse's works exude a strange fragrance, which became bait and led me to the door of German literature and history, and even the whole western philosophy and psychology of literature and history.
"two poles"
The main characteristics of Hesse's works are the polarity of morality and humanity, rationality and sensibility, secularity and individual, responsibility and self. What I admire is not that Hesse throws these problems out and explains them in the form of literary works, but that I think Hesse has truly achieved the integration and unity of the two poles in his works all his life. In many works I have read (of course, I haven't read many works), the author often expresses his yearning for seclusion like a peach blossom garden in his works. Hesse boldly created a utopian pure spiritual realm in the glass ball game, but in the end this spiritual loneliness is bound to be harmonious and even serve the secular society. From Siddhartha's seclusion to the struggle of wolves to stepping into the secular world of glass ball games, this is a wave-like movement, which first climaxes and then slowly falls. This is a reconciliation between the spiritual world and the secular world after self-psychoanalysis, and this story of reconciliation is a treasure house of a wise man's life and self-liberation after mental pain.
"supplement literature"
? The reason why I mentioned the concept of "supplement literature" in Hesse's thought is because I think this concept will still be useful in today's era and even in the future, even an indelible trend. I understand that the supplement literature mentioned by Hesse in The Glass Ball Game is a reflection on the literary situation of his own time. With keen insight and profound thoughts, he observed the current situation of his own time. Of course, his thinking about supplement literature undoubtedly caused me to think about fast food culture.
inclusiveness
"When I extend my sincere and respectful greetings to the your Festival Party, I want to express my regret first. I can't be a guest in person. I can't greet and thank you. My health is always fragile. Since 1933, years of pain have left me in a weak state for a long time, ruined my life's hard work and shouldered heavy responsibilities again and again. However, my spirit has not been crushed. I think you and I are closely related to the inspiration and ideas brought to the Nobel Foundation. In other words, this spirit is international and supranational. It should not serve war, but peace and reconciliation.
However, my ideal is not to blur the national characteristics. That will lead to a human nature with the same spirit. On the contrary, I hope that all very different shapes and colors will always exist on our lovely earth. There are so many races, nationalities, languages and many different opinions. What a wonderful thing ... "
? The above quotation from Hesse's Nobel Prize speech is just a short passage that I think is more representative of Hesse's inclusiveness. Words about cultural inclusiveness can be seen everywhere in Hesse's works, and inclusiveness is a major feature of his works, both culturally and religiously. I think this inclusiveness should also be an important reason why Hesse's works are immortal so far. At least I was deeply infected by this inclusiveness, and Hesse's research on different cultures also led me. For me, Hesse plays the role of a cultural bridge (perhaps he never expected it). At the same time, I still think Hesse is also an educator with a soul to some extent.
? These feelings are just an explanation of the surging psychology caused by my reading Hesse's works in the past two months. The notes of more than 3,000 words typed in these two hours really can't express the impact I felt when reading these works. This is a note for Hesse, not a reading note for a work. This is just the beginning of reading Hesse's works. In the future, I may be very ashamed of my view that I only touch the skin at present. At the same time, I also want to point out that the repetitive pattern of polarization and re-integration in these works may also cause aesthetic fatigue, but it does not prevent me from loving the style of Hesse's works, whether it is the questioning style that hits the soul directly in Wolf of the Wilderness, the confession with speculation and a little humor in Hot Springs, or the story-telling style of the old man in The Glass Ball Game, although this discussion style may often be greater than the plot.
? I am a reader who attaches great importance to the plot of the novel. However, when reading Hesse's works, I can completely ignore the plot, but concentrate on the spiritual communication in the text, and even have a strong interest in exploring the philosophy and ideology. Tolstoy's works first made me deeply feel the beauty of the integration of literature, history, philosophy and religious theory, and now Hesse's works have undoubtedly deepened this degree.
? For me, many works just tell me what is the meaning of life, while Hesse's works are more of a set of methodology. Of course, I admit that I must have misread some great works at an inappropriate stage of my life and failed to fully understand their insides, but I am grateful that I met Hesse's works at the right time, regardless of whether this "methodology" will affect me in the future.
