The blessing was written on February 7 1924. It was first published in1March 5, 924, No.21Volume 6 of Oriental Magazine, and later included in the author's second novel collection Vagrancy, which is the first article of Vagrancy. The 1920s was the development period of the New Culture Movement in China. The slogan of the New Culture Movement is "Democracy and Science", and the biggest obstacle for China to enter the era of democracy and science is China's decadent and ignorant feudal thoughts left over from more than 2,000 years. Women are the biggest victims of China's feudal thought. Lu Xun chose female themes in order to profoundly expose the evils and perniciousness of feudal ideology and culture.
The feudal thought criticized by the author
1. Pure
Since the Song Dynasty, China's feudal society has declined, and its feudal thoughts have become more conservative, rigid and reactionary. At this time, Neo-Confucianism appeared, which advocated "preserving justice and destroying human desires". Husband's right is naturally a kind of "natural law", and widow's remarriage destroys this kind of "natural law" with normal "human desire" Neo-Confucianism advocates women's chastity, "hunger is small, humiliation is great." Of course, widows can't remarry. Even if her fiance dies, she will stay for him for life. Finally, it is even more cruel to suggest that women should commit suicide for their dead husbands and even fiancé s, and set up memorial archways for such women. Feudal thought has developed to the point of extinction of humanity.
Step 2 command
The core of feudal thought is to maintain feudal order, saying that "the monarch is the minister's program, the father is the son's program, and the husband is the wife's program", and no one is allowed to undermine the pecking order of feudal society. In the view of neo-Confucianism advocates like Master Lu, Kang Youwei's improvement is a scourge, not to mention change. Sister Xianglin's remarriage destroyed the feudal order of the husband's power, and Master Lu naturally hated it and denounced it as "fallacy".
3. Women's "Three Obediences"
The feudal order oppressed women especially deeply, and women had no personal rights. "Don't marry from your father, marry from your husband, and your husband will die from your son." Women who violate this order are regarded as "sinners".
4. Feudal sacrifice
Ancestor worship is also an aspect of feudal ideology and culture. Kinship is also an important part of feudal order. Therefore, Master Lu Si attaches great importance to sacrifice. People like Sister Xianglin, who are already "sinners", are not worthy to play even the smallest role in the ceremony.
